I've heard about sound cards causing stuttering in race sims, sometimes. So if you're using a separate sound card and can switch to in-board, maybe that'd be worth a try.

This really doesn't sound hardware based. If it was heat on GPU/CPU you would crash to desktop or get artifacts. If it was memory you'd just crash to desktop or bluescreen, it wouldn't cause pausing. I will note late last night when I tried to play I was getting some pretty bad stuttering, though nothing regular like you're indicating.

All I did to fix my pausing was exit the game, restarted PC, did a full file check from the ED launcher and when I logged in my problem was gone.

Only sound card I have is integrated, and yeah, I actually completely reinstalled the game on a different drive, so a file check is sorta done and over done. I'm not really sure what could be causing it, HOPEFULLY I can pick up the AMD Radeon HD that Emanon is selling off, maybe I can use it instead, and see if it fixes my problem, my old GTX 570 is getting a bit up there in years and might be the culprit

After going over the whole system, Ive managed to do "something". The pauses only seem to happen in the main game now (not in the pilot training demo) I'm honestly at a complete loss as to what the issue could be now.

Did you get that GPU you mentioned? Also, sorry if you already answered that question, but did you try to get help from Frontier's support?

No, I've never gotten word back on the gpu, not sure if it is even still being offered. the part of the forum it was on http://elitepve.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2216&p=24583#p24583 As for support, I've not tried them yet because I am quite convinced the issue is my machine... I suppose I can try them, but I doubt it would bring much help. The most they can suggest is what I have already tried.

Hi,

Check, do you have any disk indexing jobs running? I think that the problem caused due the disk i/o

I have full backup every sundays and it freezes ED just same kind of symptons

Also check processes. Is there presentation fonts cache process that draw over 50% of cpu? If so:

Go C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\ ,delete all Font*.dat and reboot the machine.

Yep, went threw that already, even reinstalled the game over to my SSD from my HDD, just to iron disk I/O out of the equation... it made no difference. As for the cpu usage, it stays pretty low in game. I don't think anything is using a large amount of CPU time.

Okay, completely replaced my ram after a single error cropped up in two sticks, game is still jumpy in the same fashion, except I think it is getting worse. Hangs are more irregular now, and seem to last a full second to 1.5 seconds. Game COMPLETELY unplayable, and already almost cost me my ship. I may just quit until I can afford to do a new build some time next year. I'm able to play almost any other game at my disposal, so Elite REALLY can't take priority here.

Pembroke, try something that I saw on the forums:

Go into your nvidia settings and look for the option to select what is handling the "PhysicX" settings. By default its your GPU. Change it to CPU and try that.

I can't find the thread but someone reported it totally cleared up the stuttering for them.
