I've had cards from both companies over the years, currently have nVidia 660. I'm very tempted to get R9 Fury now but I also want to wait and see what the Polaris cards are going to cabable of. Pretty much decided already that Ati Amd is the next card for me unless Pascal cards are hugely better, which I do not believe at this point.
I play on PC, in the Mobius PVE Eurasia group.

In terms of upgrade cycles I'm now wondering if my PSU is up to the job. I've now had one "unable to lock buffer" crash, two screen black-outs and two other crashes needing reports since the upgrade. Using a quick on-line power needs calculator certainly implies I need to upgrade this PSU, which I think is only 550.

Never ending cycle.

Hmm odd.
One of the main draws of the 9xx generation was how power efficient it is compared to previous generations.
Some models where even using almost half the power to run as their 7xx counterpart.

Ah.
I checked and I thought first you got the 960.
550w psu might be a little small for the 970.
I always build my machines using at least 750watt psu or more . Cause you never know ;)

Looks like a good excuse to move to a good modular PSU. For now I've done a full remove and reinstall of drivers (with help from Guru3D's tool) and adjusting some power settings in Windows. I'll see if that helps with the "nvlddmkm stopped responding" errors I'm seeing in the log.

Short answer - "no". New 750W modular PSU has been ordered. I had a full system restart last night while in a wing at High Res. Not the best of times.

The game will only crash when you are coming out of hyperjump at full throttle, or just ticked off that npc anaconda with FAS wingmates:P
At least in my experience.

My R9 380 2Gb card runs 1080p fine with everything turned on or up. The 24gb RAM and AMD 3.5 6 core processor will help but the gpu wasn't that expensive (wife bouth it for me at christmas).
