So, just a quick heads up. I was watching this guy play in a 4k video on youtube.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAeUvZ5FcKU

He's running a 1080 maxed, and keeping a pretty decent 30 fps. And boy howdy does it look amazing.. but it's running 30fps max. If for instance, Cyberpunk 2077 is more graphically intensive, then say goodbye to playing it on high settings or 4k60 on a 1080.

TW3 looked good enough on 4k to make me think "Titan X Pascal and an UHD screen, or 2x1080 and a UHD screen", though both are really more than I'm comfortable spending.

So many freakin' decisions to be made here! I haven't found anything else on the running-1440p-on-2160p so I dunno where to go with that. I've used UHD with my 780, and it's a dog's breakfast, but it looks amazing standing still. I just don't think a 10xx can do this.. and that's what I've figured was the case for a long while now.

Well I have gone and done it, ordered a Acer Predator XB321HK and a reasonably discounted price from other places I have seen as well.

So i guess in a couple of days I will be better placed to answer any questions others might have about making the same decision. I will keep you posted :)

You are crazy.. But niiiiiice. That's price though. I want a screen like that, but I doubt a single 1080 is anywhere near enough for it, so that takes me out of my own spending window. Gotta be (somewhat) responsible. If I was just buying a monitor, I could go this route.. But my 780 needs to go.

I think Amazon let slip the vega cards are getting restocked on the 14th, so here's hoping. They removed the date pretty quickly. I am highly temped to forgo gsync, get a 29-32" Samsung, from $400-500, and buy that Titan xp..

Well that's what I might have suggested, but you seemed set on gsync. I picked up an Acer 32" VA 1440p panel a couple years ago ($400) and I think it looks great (using displayport). Vsync takes care of the tearing, and it can maintain 60fps in ED with a 1080, though I mostly use VR now. I think 1440p is a great resolution, and just about mandatory (minimum) for larger panels.

I still want to go 4k, but I think it may still be 2-3 years before I could pick up a big WUHD panel (affordable), gen 2/3 high res VR, and have the hardware to be able to use them.

It's time to give this another go.

I meant one of the UHD models. If I go 1440, I Want to go gsync too. I've known uhd is too early.. But it looks so blasted good.. Going back to the witcher 3 @1080 from uhd looks like playing a game on ps4, then playing the port from ps2.. Or more so, playing gta at launch on Xbox 350, then playing at PC launch.

1440p for me I s getting at least a 100hz capable monitor.

Ah - misunderstood. Yeah, I guess I don't see the benefit of plus 60FPS. But I guess I've always been into more simulation/strategy games (FlightSim, Sub Sims, Age of Empires - Space Quest! ;) ), smooth & slow, that apparently don't benefit from high frame rates. I do see the benefit of 90FPS in VR, though 60FPS never bothered me in a buggy on the big panel. I guess it would be nice to try it, 144FPS, but having to drop to 1080p is no longer an option.

The reason VR sets need 90FPS is the sim sickness issue. That's one of the issues I have in Elite when I'm in the SRV, as well as many others. If you don't get sim sick from the buggy, you're a lucky bugger. FDEV had addressed this a few times, but I don't have links offhand.(trying to setup ansel to take these amazing screens from the witcher 3's toussaint at night)

It's just not realistic to try for 4K/UHD this year it appears.. And 1440p doesn't need the TXP. At this point, I just have to wait to buy a GPU, and continue to figure out what monitor to get, while waiting on the verdict of 1440p on an UHD screen from Blazing Maniac's new screen.

I don't even get sim sick in the buggy in vr..

In fact I have to put a buggy on every ship I own :D
From the vultures to my cutter.

Fun fact it's actually easier to find a landing spots with the corvette or cutter than a python...

Lucky you, I guess.. I hate sim sickness.. Higher framerates are one of the fixes, or at least patches, to the issues. Smoother = less choppy motion sickness inducing lurches.

In this, Braben addresses some of these issues, more focused on the VR side.

Back on thread topic though.. seems like some of the EVGA SKUs are getting pulled. I've noticed that there have been some issues with the lastest batches of the FTW cards. Now it's hard to find that and the hybrid listing at all. So tempted to just buy the Titan X and YOLO the whole situation..

I am expecting the 1080ti to be launched quite soon, like next few months before the Christmas rush.

If gaming is all you do that is.

Personally I'm waiting for at least next gen to bother, then I will consider building a new rig.
Apart from my current gpu (that had to be updated to run my new screen) my PC is from mid 2014.
Still expect at least another year out of it, and after updating moving it to a more Home theater couch gamer type machine.
