I have it set that way too. Another advantage is that you can keep one open permanently without disabling TrackIR. I do it regularly with the left one when I’m looking for a USS, for example, so I can just glance at it with the TrackIR. I also do it during combat with the modules tab of the right panel when comes the time to switch SCB's, for example. Much handier than having to re-open it 5 times before you’re done.

Head Tracking is really good. I got a Delan Clip during Beta last year (because it was cheap) and use it with FaceTrackNoIR. If Immersion is your thing (VR aside) then a Head Tracker does the job. I've heard a lot of good stuff about the ED Tracker. One advantage I can see over other set ups is that you don't have to account for lighting like you do with an LED set up.

If I can't afford a Rift or a Vive and I get my home made VR working again I'll probably get an ED Tracker as I spoke to them about VR and they said it's possible to translate a 1:1 curve (in a headset as opposed to exaggerating head movements whilst looking at a monitor)

Correct. There are 2 types of setup on the EDTracker. One is linear, 1:1 movement that you can also scale up higher like 9:1 or 20:1 depending on your needs. The other is Exponential, which is what I use. The further off centre you get, the more movement is put in game.

The new software allows you to setup a profile, so I can set a profile exponential for ED, and have another for Linear that I use with Opentrack to use with Warthunder or other games that work a little better with TrackIR type setups. You can even use opentrack to mimic a 4th DOF so that you can move your head to the side which is valuable for looking behind your plane in Warthunder or IL2.

Its a great piece of kit. Combine its ability with open track and it opens even more possibilities.

I've had TrackIr for years, ever since I broke down and bought it for IL-2, a WW2 flight sim. It is the single best investment, IMHO, even before getting a HOTAS. The ability to just look around and the situational awareness it brings is great. It takes a little bit of getting used to, especially if you are used to looking around with a hat switch. I found my self wearing the Tracker and still moving the hat switch for a while. But soon it becomes second nature. If you get the type that clips to the brim of a hat, make sure it's a comfortable one. Also, watch of for reflections off clothing such as the white stripes on Adidas sports wear. It will play hell with the tracker. Bright daylight will also mess with the sensor. Otherwise, very easy to setup and use.

Yeah, I agree Loriath. FaceTrackNoIR is excellent with a Infra Red LED but the curves are designed for facing a monitor (in my case TV) so when using the home made VR thingy I have to allow for head movement being translated that way. That can make me nauseus.

The great thing is that since ED I've built a pretty good PC and learned abot all this new stuff. Just finished putting together a chair for the HOTAS it was a really cheap chair but with some MDF and cable ties it doe the job. I'll upload a picture once I have a camera.
