X-55 Out Of Order

My seven months old X-55 died, last night. Well, actually it's not completely dead, but it could as well be. :x

First (to be exhaustive), the spring of the stick's rudder broke or disengaged a couple of weeks ago, so the stick didn't twist back in central position anymore. That was annoying, but it didn't make it unusable once I set a large dead zone to that axis.

But yesterday, all the buttons on the right throttle stopped working. At first, it only happened at full throttle and they weren't even detected by the Saitek software. I have a lot of important things, on those buttons: boost, FSD, reversing the throttle, silent running, thrusters and panel controls on the HATS, panel tabs on the pinky spin... So at first I could still use them when I pulled the throttle back a bit, but after a while even that stopped working and the buttons were only detected when the throttle was at 0.

To make sure it's not a software problem, I tried it on my Mac with a program called Joystick Show that detects and displays all the buttons and axis, and the problem reproduced there too. So definitely a hardware issue.

I filed a ticket on MadCatz site asking for a replacement, but for now I'm without a controller. So I'm virtually without E:D too, because I hate flying with the mouse and keyboard.

That fucking sucks and demonstrates how shit the build quality of this product is! But now that everything's built in China with the cheapest components and workers, what else can we expect? :(

Pick up a cheap XBox controller. I was a snob about using one for ages, but then I realised how useful they are when you don't want to break out the big guns.

Exactly. :|

If you want to buy something cheap and good, you have to buy both, separately. ;)

Ask for a full refund......Go rob a bank.....

Then buy the Warthog......

And never look back....

You know you want to.....

In the mean time to keep your hands busy....

Masturbate....

:D

Seriously feel for you mate.....I hate it when shit like that happens....I had a few probs with my new X52 pro....Managed to get over them but it still kept losing calibration......

So I thought fuck it and bought a Warthog.....

Took a few weeks for the bruising on my bollocks to go down when the wife found out......But it was worth it....

:)

LOL :D

How do you compensate for the absence of rudder on the Warthog? Pedals?

Bummer! :(

Mine arrived on Saturday and I can see why you're missing it. That said I very nearly sent it back, just could not get the yaw to work, it was either all or nothing. I must have spent hours tweaking the curves, but what ever I did, it either didn't register or I just overshot my target with every yaw movement, I was think "I've spent all this money and made the game worse!".

 Rather embarrassingly it turns out I'd set the yaw to the individual directions, rather than the axis (effectively turning it into an on/off switch)

I hope you get yours sorted real soon.

My new X-55 seems to have a little unintended "dead zone" on the joystick's X-axis. Especially noticable if doing a slow/gentle roll. The ships begins to roll, then stops for a brief moment before continuing. Looks as if something would jerk the ship.

There's also other shady stuff going on. One time my 'Thrust Up' jammed and the ship just kept going up. It slowed/stopped when I held down the 'Thrust Down' (In this case castle hat had the thruster controls) but it began going up the moment I let go of the hat. Then after a while it unjammed and with that the 'Thrust Up' stopped working altogether. Fixed it by changing the binding and changing it back. Not sure if that's a hardware or software issue but doesn't look promising if I'm to suddenly lose controls in the middle of the game :(

Time shall tell how long mine should last.

Thanks for the kind words, all! :)

I found on the official forum that I'm not the only one who got this problem:
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthrea ... ost1787996

OTOH, it's a good thing mine broke while it was still under warranty. If they all have that defect, I might get a brand new one every six months or so. ;)
