Oculus Rift in Reality... And my Pocket :)

I took the plunge. I had too. Since I was a wee boy I always dreamed that one day I would fly through the galaxy in my space ship. Cruising through space and finding aliens

Obviously. As I grew to an age where i was a little more understanding of how life worked I realised that this dream would never become a reality in my lifetime. But, thanks to Frontier Development. The Oculus Rift, (A hole in my pocket) and being alive in a time where both of these have come together. I can almost feel as if I'm there. That will have to be good enough

I am quite worried though that i will lose sense of reality and not want to live without the Oculus and Elite

Has anyone got this combination and ''lost'' sense of reality? Also I want to know how the planets and space in general is going to look? I mean I know the text on the panels is going to be a little... pixely. So i have heard but I'm not here to look at text. I'm here to play among the stars

You'd probably end up using it 70% of the time, I started playing ED with a DK2 (still counting) and it does trick you into believing that you're actually inside your ship. It's not too convenient trying to take a peek out of the VR headset every now and then whenever I need to check the browser though. Take note that I haven't tried any VR desktop plugin, by the way.
And sooner or later, you would have to use a HUD color editor (mostly green); the text will be much more readable afterwards. From what I've read before, Oculus Rift uses a PenTile screen and doesn't display red or blue that well.
http://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/ ... gui_colorsPentile displays (like the one used in the DK2) use extra green subpixels to create the illusion of more real pixels.
All in all, it made me feel like I'm inside a scifi VHS or betamax tape. A charm I found surprisingly nostalgic. Oh, and don't worry about "losing touch", it's just there as long as you're wearing the headset. Just be careful not to push it too far if you end up getting simulator sickness on your first few tries.

I suppose I would have to wait for the consumer version, or maybe a little more in the future for the perfect experience

Thanks for the info, my UI is now a cool green with purple and pink hints ready for arrival

I dont use the key board when in the Rift, a x52 HOTAS and voiceattack take care of most my needs, if I have to type , I unfortunatly slide the HMD up and type..but an looking at implementing speech recognition to type.
I love using the rift and getting up from your chair in the game and walking as far as the oculus's cord will allow is pretty awesome...lol
cant wait to see how they implement the FPS expansion and walking in the spaceship with the rift.....

Glad it helped. DK2 is probably a good choice only when you don't want to wait any longer and experience VR asap.

It took me about day or two to know where the keys are mapped, if that helps. Need to be more careful not to accidentally unholster your weapon while inside a station though. LOL.
I want to try a HOTAS. From what I know, the flightstick moves when you're using one. It's just stationary with the mouse.
As for Voiceattack... (02:43)
