Elite: Dangerous PvE - Mobius

I have played Elite since launch with no issues and recently changed my AMD R9 for an EVGA GTX 980.
Now I crash in game back to desktop everytime within 10 - 15 minutes of playing the game.
I am not aware of any temp issues and use a 1000w PSU.
I have read about the factory overclock causing a conflict but not faound a solution.
Can anybody help?

First thought is heat management. Is your card/cabinet well ventilated? Did you get some kind of gpu management software with the card? This should help to check the temps.

Do you play other games without issue?
Can try running driver cleaners to clear up old gunk.
But in my experience if you have issues like this after upgrading a full reformat and reinstall of windows might be in order.

Is your card overclocked out of the Box? Known issue that overclocked 980's crash the game. Set clock to base speed.

I recently replaced a failing GTX 770 with a EVGA GTX 970. Not quite the same card you are running, but I haven't had any trouble at all with it.

Have you checked your MoBo (or computer) manufacturer website for any pertinent updates?

I am running an Intel I-7 4770 on Windows 10 64bit, if that helps at all.

Many times when a game starts up with no problem but routinely shuts down after a period of time it's a heat issue with the GPU. A good program to check temps is GPU-Z. When you install/open that program, click on the 'Sensors' tab. Then start up ED, play till it crashes and then check the GPU temp graph...it'll show you the temps over the last 10 minutes or longer.

Other causes could be corrupt driver uninstall/install which is rare but can happen. In that case I would use a driver cleaner/sweeper to make sure all traces of your old AMD driver is removed as sometimes bits and pieces get left behind in the registry. DDU is a good one. If it was me doing this method I would 1) create a restore point 2) remove current Nvidia driver 3) run DDU to clean both Nvidia & AMD drivers to make sure every piece is gone 4) install current WHQL Certified Nvidia driver, not Beta driver

Have twin 970's and only time I have issues is when it is really hot in my living room. The symptoms you describe sound like as others suggested a heat problem.

What you need to check is your BIOS. Usually stuff like that is resolved with a simple BIOS update. I had similar issues on my laptop after switching to Win10 where my GPU just kept crashing. Update your BIOS, update your graphics drivers, and I hope it works.
