the only thing to dislike about this is that it will be another 5 years before they produce mobile cards capable of running the Rift well.

Surely Nvidia next gen gpus' (Pascal) will be throttled for mobile performance:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2898175/ ... y-sli.htmlI don't think you'll have to wait 5 years. But I do think that a capable next gen gtxm laptop will be over the 1000 dollar price point though..

Surely next gens top end mobile gpus' should be up to the task?

I'm not quite so confident, if you look at current mobile performance its lagging quite far behind Rift spec's, compare the 970 to the 970m and the mobile card gets about half the passmark score. as for the price? more like $2,000, I paid £1350 for my 970m equipped ROG machine.

I just want to know, if I SLi two 960 cards will it work? Just got the 960, can't afford to buy a full 970, although I may have to!

With the changes to SLI scaling in dx12 ans win10 (well when they get the kinks out) I can only guess it can only help.
I am thinking the same, but I am also thinking of upgrading when the next Gen comes (if it actually performs better)
Anyhoo, I'm just in waiting mode atm but I am very very hopefull for VR.
Comparing mobile gpu's and full size dual slotted cards is an exercise in folly. The mobiles will ALWAYS cost more and perform less, but there is a lot of optimization left to do in VR and when that time comes it will definitely be much less expensive.
Might not be this generation but I would expect it to happen very soon, say less than three years from now.

I wonder if the 'Oculus ready' PCs will come with special vomit shielding, or at least a sick bag dispenser.

Only Imperial and Federation scum need such things! We hardy independent types know not of this weak constitution!

-edit- OMG I am writing like my students and using the OBVIOUSLY wrong word which sounds the same
