WTF is wrong with the graphics?

Lately, my graphics have been garbage and I can't find an answer as to why - just more people having similar issues. For me, it's swimmy, aliased graphics that don't adjust no matter which setting I choose from the Graphics menu. It's to the point where it looks like my pilot's drunk as hell trying to fly through an 8-bit car wash. Forums are useless for resolving the problem, customer support seems to have no effing clue what to do...

So. Is anyone else having graphics issues at present, and for the love of all that's good and holy, DID YOU EVER FIND A F*&^ING FIX TO THEM?!

I mean, hell, it's like as soon as I resolve one issue I have with buying more stuff from this developer, another crops up as if on cue.

Ahh the perils of being an FD customer permanent beta tester. Quite agree though.

Well, I'm fuckin' over it. Put in a ticket to Frontier, got a timely response, but it was scripted - as soon as dropping my graphics to Low didn't work (by the way, telling me to drop my graphics settings is not a "fix"), I got ignored. All I wanted to know was what the optimal fucking specs were to get the fucking game running like it fucking shows on their fucking videos.

Yeah, I'm pretty pissed at this point. Getting basic information shouldn't be like pulling teeth, ESPECIALLY for paying customers. If a customer asks a game company what the optimal hardware setup is to play their game, that customer should have that information. Hell, it should already be available in the knowledgebase! I call up Bioware, I get that info. I call up Blizzard, I get that info. Hell, I dropped a line to freakin' Winch Gate asking the same playing Ryzom on Linux, and even THEY were able to respond.

If Frontier can't tell me what I need to go buy to enjoy the game I already bought and was enjoying quite well graphically before 1.4 came along, then they're giving me a full refund and I'm gone. I'll wait for No Man's Sky or Star Citizen or (a glorious day this would be) Egosoft finally getting into the online space-sim game.

But right now? This is not a finished product. Frontier needs to stop acting like it is. I'm aware that it won't be good for their business model, but at this stage of things all I see is a dishonest company who's struggling to deliver on their promises - one that embraces compliments but can't take criticism.

That might work for some consumers. I expect more and better for my money.

Absolutely agree, I initially bought this game on the understanding that it was a release quality product that will have extra content added along the way, I wasn't expecting everything to be included in v1.0. Instead what we have is a constant beta quality product that FD seem to stumble from one balls-up to the next with.

Oh, thank God. You know I couldn't get this information out of customer service in three hours' worth of trying? Thank you so much!

Now. ATI or Nvdia? I've heard the former has issues in supercruise at present, but only on Windows 10? What about a GTX 970 - they seem to be more in stock on Newegg and they appear to bench a bit more.

I've only ever used Nvidia, but I'm not exactly a tech guru : D

You must have been looking in the wrong place - not difficult given the amount of info that's out there - it's here: https://www.frontierstore.net/games/eli ... erous.html along with all those impossible videos.

But it might help others help you if you posted an outline of your current kit.

I'm just throwing this out here, but you may have already tried this.

I had a case where while experimenting with HUD colors left me with a completely black hud, virtually invisible and utterly game breaking.
No amount of steam verification and even uninstalling and redownloading the entire game didn't fix it.
Thats when I remember developers tend to use the windows cache folders now rather than storing all configs in their own game folders (not really sure I like that, means you don't loose configs when reinstalling)

There are three folders in the appdata area, from FD one for the launcher and one for main config files and a third (I just discovered) that from the look of it holds a local save of your commander.

Since this folder is inside your user's folder windows has a direct symbolic link towards it.
Your save file is in:

Code: Select all

%appdata%

open run command (win+r) and paste that in to open the folder directly.
Deleting this should just prompt you to download a new copy from FD's servers (that's where they really store it) so shouldn't loose your progress, back it up if you feel like it.

Code: Select all

%appdata%\..\local

open run command (win+r) and paste that in to open the folder directly.
This Contains two more, "Frontier Developments" and "Frontier_Developments" the latter (with underscore) is for the launcher and the other contains most of the files associcated with settings and controls, you might want to back up your key bindings.

You should really only be required to delete the first folder since it holds you graphic settings etc, but for safe measures you might as well take the hammer to all of them.

Pardon me if this is so obvious that you have tried already.

But the 8bit graphics might sound like corrupted drivers, or DX install as well which would be a different matter entirely, and honestly easist way to fix is to reformat and reinstall windows.

To catch up:

* Did you know searching for "recommended hardware configuration for elite dangerous" does not return the E:D store link in its search results? Someone want might to check the source to make sure that kind of information is being indexed by Google and the like - especially if customer service can't find this information to share! XD

* My rig's old enough to rebuild - Athlon II x4 640 CPU, HD 7750 GPU, 525w PSU and 4GB RAM. Clearly not enough to do the job anymore, nor did I ever think she would be for the duration. I just haven't had the time to sit down at a workbench with some parts and tools. How I miss those days.

* Thanks for the tips, Tor! I'm gonna try that and see if I can't at least restore a bit of sanity to what's rendered for me at present.

Seriously, Frontier should be paying this group. If it weren't for Mobius I'd have been out a LONG time ago.
