Best GFX card for VR

While waiting for Horizons and its spec list, I have been idly thinking about upgrading my graphics card.

Currently I have a GTX960 4GB model. Does well with Elite in 1080 at Ultra (50-60 in space, 50ish in stations). My 960 isn't that old - got it just before Oculus released its min specs for VR. So now I am left in a quandary. Do I upgrade to a 970, biting the bullet with cost (£250+) or hope that SLi will support VR (I am looking at HTC/Steam Vive rather than FB's soul stealer :D) and get a second 960 (£150)? My mobo supports SLi and my PSU should be beefy enough to handle two cards.

With black friday coming up I am rather hoping for a good deal on a gfx card but not holding my breath!

Honestly, the ones coming out in 2017, until then it's compensating for lack of optimisation by throwing power at the problem.

I too have a 960 and I'm not replacing it until I actually have tested with whatever VR device I'm getting, and probably not until either the 2016 gen of cards or even the 2017.
I estimate it's still about two years after launch until VR is settled and a relatively stable tech.

I am also leaning towards vive :P

I think my 'old' HD7990 will have to do for a couple of years yet.

Another Vive-leaner ;)

I would wait until spring/summer 2016. Nvidia is supposed to come out with a new line that will be much better than what's out today.

I have a 780ti and the only thing that beats it is the 980 and up. Sad.

It will also let you get a better idea from early VR adopters as to how much GPU we really need, vs what the manufacturers claim is needed. You know what I mean.

And I'm sitting here with a 750m
so smol but best I've got. Other option would be a Nvidia 6600.
You wont even find drivers for that one.
