Fevered dreams and credit cards, perhaps not the best mix..

Well as some may know I have been battling a cold this week and I probably haven't been able to hold a coherent thought since Monday.
Ok I might not be very coherent normally, but when I'm running a fever a conversation with me is like trying to talk to one of those aliens in original star wars with light autism, on Thursday I pretty much found myself in the state of mind I would equate to a cross between drugged out wookie and a Bantha. .

Hope that sets the stage.
Well on Wednesday my new screen arrived a ultra wide 34" 3440x1440p of eye blinding glory (it most certainly expands my horizon).

But being a bit of snob in regards to fps I at least on Wednesday felt my gtx 960 wasn't keeping up... And what's better than 2GB of ram. Well 4GB of course.
know what's better than 4GB?

So in my fever addled state I dug up my plastic and now this https://www.dropbox.com/s/edssaayff9ywq ... 5.jpg?dl=0 was waiting for me in the post office today...

Today the fever has come down at least a bit, the mind fog is slightly less pervasive so I'm getting delayed sticker shock.
Those 6GB 980 TI's cost a freaking mint...

Haven't managed to test much but from what I have tested this thing going is a freaking beast and my future mark score is almost at 13000.
Recommended score for VR is slightly below 8k. .

Luckily I have no wife. If I did I would probably be looking at a fortnight of ass kickings.

Well these hobbies of mine do keep me sober :D

I probably won't be partying this Jul but then again being the only drunk guy in a family of teetotal's at Christmas dinner usually isn't that much fun anyways.

And one of the best vacations I ever had was spent on the couch playing mass effect 1-3 for an entire easter..

Maybe there is a reason I don't have a wife?

I am actually reconsidering the screen. It's not often I say this but it is big.

So might even be better off with a 27" screen with g-sync. .

Great games......Was pissed off when they switched control methods....Between 1 & 2......or was it 2 & 3 ?......Dunno now....

Think it was 1 & 2 ......

Andromeda is due for release next year I understand.....

I envy you.....

You should my life is freaking awesome at the minute.
well apart from this cold.

You can take some solace in knowing that every time I sneeze the muscles around my chest feel like they're going to rip apart, followed by the sensation of my head almost exploding even more painfully.

And I sneeze often...

Ditto - I have the same card and am waiting until next week to see what happens with performance.

My 'old' HD7990 6GB only peaks at ~30% on ED @ 1920 x 1200 'ultra' so I'm hoping it lasts a few more years yet. Paid £500 second hand for it 21 months ago, on top of a 200 mile round-trip in a snowstorm to collect it :(

When I'm crypto-mining with it [Blake-256 Ecosystem for the insiders ;)] it runs 98%+ & can only be kept within temp [>95C] with the use of a large external blower, originally an extractor fan for an 'indoor greenhouse' ;)

Had a 6990 card since 2011 until a short run on the 960, and I remember it was idling at like 65c or something under loads it was easily 90c+. Only had a single blower fan though, quite loud..

This new beast idles at 40c (after I opened the air intake on the side) and the fans doesn't start running until it hits 60c.

Still haven't ran it through proper paces due to, you know. Gesundheit.
I don't know if you have the horizons beta but there is a huge difference in gpu usage between regular ED and ED:horizons since they use the gpu for generating the surfaces etc.
I don't think I could hit ultra in ED:H and expect more than 40fps as it stands, of course they will probably spend the next year optimizing.
I suspect this is partially why they aren't declaring the launch on the 15th a full release even though for all intents and purposes it is.
