Years ago I had looked into playing with modes, but eventually moved away from them. One thing that always bothered me is that the modes on the throttle and stick are independent of each other. Plus, I don't usually look at the gear enough to actually see the mode lights, so I found them less than useful.
I really wish my joystick had a pinky button - it would make shifting a lot easier. Now I'll have to use another throttle button. One disconcerting thing I read about modes is that the LED color doesn't always correspond to what "mode" you are in, it just changes color each time you hit the button. I could maybe live with that, but it could be confusing.

Yeah, this is the reason I bought the Pro Throttle. Funny thing, I just recently read an old reddit where Mobius was swearing up and down that using an analog joystick for thrusters was terrible (for combat) and they need to come on full using digital buttons. I'm curious to try this but I'm months away from being back in the bubble. You still need the analog thrusters for landings, but maybe I'll need to sacrifice another hat for digital thrusters - or use modes.

Yup, I still use the mouse for maps - everything else is on the hotas or via VA. Now I need to learn to use the joystick for maps before VR comes along.
