Do you still only need to do 1% damage in a CZ to get the bond and a contribution to your combat rank? The bloke who won the combat category of the race to elite competition got the upper categories of his combat rank by giving out damage in a CZ.

No idea Gorf, I do the CZ's in Solo mode - no chance of friendly fire or squashing some poor Cmmdr with my poor piloting skills as I undock lol :)

Oh, so that's what the distance slider is for at the bottom right. I always just left it maxed out.

I don't think it needed to be other CMDRs you fight with. I seem to recall that before Wings, you just needed to do 1% damage to get the combat bond. So even in solo, you could just find shieldless targets hit them a few times, then move on. When the NPCs finally got the kill, you got the bond and the contribution to combat rank. If in group or open, I think all contributors to a ship's demise got the full bond. Since Wings, it seems that a few small hits are no good if a different CMDR gets the kill.

From experience it seems that when two CMDRs (who are not in a wing) engage the same target the bond goes to the one who does the most damage. When it's NPCs you just seem to need to do a reasonable amount of damage, taking a target from 10% down to 0% doesn't seem to award anything, but taking one down from 30%(ish) to 0% does.

So I think you are right, you can no long just randomly shoot lots of shieldless targets and let the NPCs do the work.

@ Gorf - I don't bother too much with the slider except when I'm trading. For Exploration I just use the galaxy map and star filters if I need to, and pick the jumps myself, it's something to do apart from opening cans and talking to anything that doesn't move :)

Going to get me boots out of the fridge now !

Fly safe :)

ah forgive the quoty cock ups I'm crap at this forum stuff :)

Home sweet home! Made it back to Avalon in one piece. Sold a few pages worth of data, cashed some 4.5 mil and made it to Trailblazer. And also got a bucket load of first discoveries.

Yay!

Scooping fuel is very much like making love to a beautiful woman. First check the target is hot enough,
then approach slowly. Once close enough, pull out your scoop and fill her up. After you're done just
gently pull away, turn around and leave.

Guess the definition of 'few' is open to interpretation

But thanks! Speaking of which, some punk interdicted me just couple of jumps from Avalon while I was scooping fuel. I tried to evade but was so close to the star figured it'd be better to submit and boost away. Which I did.

Since the CG got buggered, I dusted of the old "Badonkadonk" (T6) and did a rares run up to the Lave area and back. Took my time and netted 3 mill.

Made a few friends along the way.

After dinner I may attempt the impossible. Take a combat ready eagle into open and she how long I last just travelling.
