Connecting GTX 970

Postby Avago-Earo » Sun Aug 16, 2015 4:06 pm

Just got a GTX 970:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00N ... ge_o01_s00

I only have a 6 pin connector from my PSU. My PSU is 650W and is 80 Plus Bronze rated and it came with the Gigabyte case (I built this rig last October and am new to building (Mobo: Asus Z87-K, CPU: 4th Gen i5 4660, GPU: EVGA GT 740 SC)) and I have had no problems with black outs and such.

As a solution, I ordered a 2xMolex to 8 Pin Adapter :
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002 ... ge_o00_s00

Will this work? I've been reading up a bit on line but have little knowledge regarding electrics, but my understanding is that all the connections from the PSU are at 12 Volts and the components draw the required Watts that they regulate so, so long as the wires and connections are rated for the Amp load it should be OK. Is this right? As anyone in the know can probably tell, I know nothing about this sort of thing.

Cheers for any advice :)

I think it should. But I'm suprised this adapter wasn't included with the card.

Yes, but considering the price, £260 and Metal Gear Solid V came free with it (got sent the code already, don't know if it's my thing but I'll give it a go), I'm not too concerned. The adapter comes tomorrow.

Cheers for the reply.

Yeah, well it worked. Temps are nice and low.

Wow! from the GT 740 to the GTX 970... Unbelievable! Ultra settings 50 FPS in Space Stations. I shit thee not!

Going to try it out on my Nexus 7 and Trinus Gyre Oculus Thrift.

Right, Off I fuck then :)

Great, happy to hear its working, and yes that's a pretty potent upgrade :)
If you don't have a high Res screen I would recommend trying the nvidia dynamic or super resolution settings (I'm not entirely sure what they call it).

Basically it lets you render the entire game at a higher resolution than your screen, downsample it to your screens resolution. Good trick to fix twinkling pixels around edge rendering and or glitches in anti aliasing.

Cheers TorTorden, I'll check that out. I'm currently on a 32" 1080p TV.
