Open play still dodgy

Postby GlobusDiablo » Sun Oct 26, 2014 11:40 pm

So, spent a couple of hours in open play, to see what was what. And it's still dodgy. Hang times, soft locks and CTD's are still common.
Still fighting with instancing I suppose, considering how stable playing in the Mobius group is.

It'll be interesting to see what beta 3 will bring in this regard.

I didn't have too much of an issue when I tried open play, there were quite a few times where it was slow getting out of a jump, but other than that I didn't have an issue. I haven't tried since joining Mobius though.

I was in open play on Saturday night and it was pretty bad. Stuck in hyperspace forever a couple of times, long delays coming out of supercruise. This stuff has been going on a long time and at the moment I'm not convinced that Frontier know how to fix it. I think they are trying a few different things with the patch releases but so far there is no workable solution. That's fine at the moment because it's Beta and there is a full wipe coming but it's not so fine for the final release. Some of these issues lose you minutes and because of that make you late with deliveries etc which in turn makes you reputation poorer and can also make you a criminal. That's pretty game breaking.

I really hope Beta 3 solves these issues but I it's more hope than belief at the moment.

My thoughts exactly. Open play has to be rock solid, or FD's got a major problem on their hands. I'm assuming they know this already :P , so the question is, what will they do, and when...

They need to solve the networking and quick. A short delay from supercruise could easily be "hidden" but at the moment some times it's 3 seconds and other times it's 30 seconds! They need to get that nailed to 5 seconds or so and covered with a better animation than the juddering, head shaking thing we have at the moment.

Space Station deciding to jump 500m to the left really really needs to be fixed. My net connection is pants, but still.
