Keyboard and Mouse Control Map

Postby Brightside » Tue Nov 04, 2014 4:42 pm

Hi all

So I went ahead and purchased the beta to have a play, and my first impression was "These controls are IMPOSSIBLE!"
Then I started messing about with key mapping and after changing the commands for almost everything I've got a set up I am almost happy with.

First off the Mouse controls Yaw and Pitch, no more rolling around like a mad man.
A and D control roll left and right respectively and as always W and S control the throttle
Q and E now control left and right thrust with R and F controlling vertical thrust.
The Cargo Scoop was remapped to C because that actually puts it in reach when I'm flying, and the Mouse Wheel now serves to both select a target and scroll through fire groups.

The one problem I have is my throttle isn't staying at any one level, I throttle up and when I take my finger of the button the ship throttles down. Ideally I'd like the throttle to stick in the same place so I can keep in the nice blue area for maneuvering without having to tap 'W' every so often, is there a way to achieve this without setting a key to ##% throttle?

Good for you Aves. I knew you would buckle... :)

The throttle issue, especially in FA-Off, is why most use HOTAS with dedicated throttle stick. This is, as far as I know, the only way to keep throttle steady while flying FA-Off.

It should stay put when in FA-On, no?

Keep us posted. :)

Try changing the throttle increments in control options from continuous to 10% or sthg......

Not sure on this as I have a HOTAS.........

Aves, stop farting about and get this : http://www.thrustmaster.com/products/tflight-hotas-x

Its cheap and cheerful and you'll learn to fly and park and all the other bollocks much quicker than with using a keyboard.

THEN, when E:D goes gold, you'll be all set.

And then crimbo comes round and you can splash the cash on this : http://www.thrustmaster.com/products/hotas-warthog

However, there is a gang of alcoholics that squat on elitepve.com, so don't forget to have some money for beer - just to keep them happy.

Since the second training mission I found that the throttle does do what I want it to do and only acts differently inside and around space stations as an aid to docking, so all is good by way of controls for me. It was just a matter of getting the command keys laid out in a way that worked for me. Although I'm still awful at combat maneuvers I can do all the other bollocks without a problem (except pilot FA:Off without crashing into something) and have even escaped interdiction a few times.
