Ship capabilities overlap or lack of.

Postby FzCruzer » Wed Dec 31, 2014 7:23 pm

Thought I would throw this out to others that are moving up through the different ships, might be obvious for some but may help others.

My transition has been Sidewinder>Hauler>Cobra>T6>Asp.

I moved into the hauler soon as I could and set it up for mining. I enjoyed that ship and for me it was perfect for mining because the cargo capability was not too big and could get a full load of nothing in lower value than gold in an evening gaming session.

When I got the Cobra I set it up for mining also but grew tired of mining before I could fill the ship lol. It was a great all round ship that I started doing some trading with.

Moved to the T6 and put a lot of upgrades into in and was great for trade runs. The area that I have been most active has a good tech system surrounded other trade destinations in about a 18ly radius. Having many different commodities has been nice so I can change what I haul depending on the market.

My intention all along was to get into an ASP as it seems to be a good all around ship that can trade large amounts of cargo and still be able to dock at the small stations.

Here is what I learned and the main point of my post:

I upgraded to early to the ASP. I did not realize just how big of a jump in cost it was to outfit it to be in the same league as my upgraded T6. The initial cargo hold is only 38 Tons, travel distance without upgrades is only around 12 ly.

I did not have the money to upgrade modules, could not pay insurance buy back if something happened, and could not do the same routes as before because of the limited stock jump range. I continued risking my investment by buying larger cargo racks and making runs but was still not making near the money I was making in the T6.

I ended up stripping down the Asp, selling it, and buying another T6. Now I have the T6 upgraded with about 6 Mil in the bank. It seems like to go from the T6 to the Asp and make money I will need to have at least 10 Mil in the bank.

I have only lost two ships since playing and they were both on the first day that I started the game. piloting the ASP without the money for insurance was a bit nerve racking, and I had more close calls when doing it then I normally have lol.

Anyway, research how much the upgrades are going to cost on your next ship purchase to at least make it as capable as the ship you are currently in.

Hi,

I've been running with an ASP for some days now.
I have 120 cargo, 23.46 LY jumprange fully loaded.
the ship and added modules/cargo racks are roughly 14 mil alltogether

It's a lot to save for in the hauler but better safe then sorry.

I hope this helps you to get an idea on how much money to safe for.

Thanks for the tips guys.

The ASP is the ship I want to get for a long while, but will be patient in my type-6.
