My current Cobra layout is ...

Ancient Light
  • Hardpoints
    • 2x Multi-cannon F2 (G)
    • 2x Beam Laser E2 (G)
    • Point Defence I0
    • Chaff Launcher I0
  • Internals
    • Reinforced Alloys I1 (Until I upgrade)
    • Power Plant A4
    • Thrusters A4
    • Frendship Drive A4 (With magical pony power, glitter and rainbows)
    • Life Support A3
    • Power Distributor A3
    • Sensors A3
    • Fuel Tank C4 (Size 16)
    • 2x Cargo Rack E4 (Size 16)
    • Shield Generator A4
    • Cargo Rack E2 (Size 4)
    • Fuel Scoop A2
    • FSD Interdictor A2
Jump Range: 21LY
Power Available: 14.93/15.60

Been playing for just under a month, trading and a little light bounty hunting.
I went Sidewinder -> Hauler -> Adder -> Cobra. Viper is nice but not my play style. Likewise T6, so my next ship will be probably an Asp or maybe a Python. Of course, having said this I'll mess up insurance, get a bounty on myself and my next ship will be a Sidewinder... That's usually my luck at any rate.

No shield cells, you're a braver pilot than I am. Perhaps swap the Point Defense for Kill Warrent Scanner, unless you've had an incredible amount of seeker missiles and/or torpedoes shot at you of course. I see you found our secret headquarters that offers Cobras with a different hardpoint layout than the rest of the game.

This used to be the loadout for my Cobra (Nefertiti) for a very long time:
2x 2F/G Multi-cannon
2x: 1E/G Beam Laser
Chaff Launcher
0D Kill Warrant Scanner

Reactive Surface Composite
4A Power Plant
4A Thrusters
4A Frame Shift Drive
3A Life Support
3A Power Distributor
3A Sensors
4C Fuel Tank (Capacity: 16)

4A Shield Generator
4E Cargo Rack (Capacity: 16)
4E Cargo Rack (Capacity: 16)
2A Fuel Scoop
2B Shield Cell Bank
2E Cargo Rack (Capacity: 4)

Sometimes taking the Shield Cells and Fuel Scoop out for an additional 4-8T and/or Advanced Discovery Scanner.
Range around 17LY

The HP layout just seemed right, though I started with burst lasers rather than beams. As to shield cells, I have been considering it in place of the small cargo rack. The scoop pays for itself though considering the sort of runs I do (rare items over about 200ly and fill the remaining space with whatever, usually palladium or gold)

I learned the hard way that going off into space without a fuel scoop is a bad idea. Religiously putting one on my ships ever since. As for the rares, I never had any trouble filling up my hold (32, 36 or 44 ton) between the two areas (Lave and Fujin). Do you fill up your hold between stations whilst collecting the different rares before setting off for the 200LY journey, or did they tune the amount of rares each station has even further down?

The amount is low, but I make 16k+/tonne so I'm not worried. I stop off every 80LY or so to replot the route, and when I do, I sell/buy the rest of my hold contents.

I'm also nowhere near Lave so not tried that route... maybe sometime.

As anybody found any higher class weapons yet for the Cobra? Other than the usual E and F rated ones?

Can't remember who started the thread, replying on a phone bit tricky. But hope the new load out is going well? I read somewhere somebody ran a class 1 and class 2 laser and the same multi cannon. Seemed an interesting idea rather than running the normal weapons.

Before 1.1 I used to run a C2 Beam and C1 Cannon setup.. now with heat management and some other weapon tweeks I've gone back to my old setup from my Beta days which was C2 Cannons (G) and C1 Bust (G) and I seem to chew through combat ships at conflict zones at a much faster rate than the previous setup though now power management is key. Everything else on my Cobra is A class so I can keep enemy ships in my sights for the cannons to take aim.
