Also as you get more comfortable with controls and sailing in supercruise, always try to approach a destination port from the planet side. Each orbital will have a planet it is "attached" to, if you approach the orbital from the direction of that planet you will normally be approaching it so as to drop from supercruise facing the entrance slot of said station. Takes a bit of practice but most times I can get the entrance straight ahead on most occasions.
