Trying to decide on a ship

Postby dreamreaper » Sat Oct 17, 2015 2:28 am

As the title states, I am trying to decide on what ship I want to go for. I am currently in the sidewinder and its getting old FAST!!! Well not real fast, I been in it for about 40hrs now. All though a lot of that time was getting used to the game, and figuring stuff out.

So far what I seem to like doing is, exploration, bulletin board stuff (smuggling) with some occasional trading thrown in for when I get bored, but honestly I get bored pretty quick doing that. At some point I wouldnt mind trying mining, but its nothing pressing at the moment.

I have had my eye on the Cobra MK III since I first started, but I am not sure its what I really need or want. Also I only have 1.4 mil credits, so I still have some more work to do in the Sidewinder I am sure.

Thanks for any help!!!

Stay safe out there!!!!

The Cobra is probably the exact ship you need for what you have listed.

40T cargo for a little trading (rares are decent money) BB Stuff is usually under 20T per mission for Hauling and Smuggling. The Cobra is a Fantastic Smuggler. It is what I am running. I have 2 heatsinks and have yet to be scanned and fined. 2 Pulse Lasers and 2 Multi-Cannons and I can defend myself against most things, except for wings. I even solo'd an Anaconda yesterday (He was Low Level, and not really a great challenge, but I didn't lose shields at all).

You can strip it back, toss in a good Fuel scoop and do some exploring if you wanted to, but other ships are more optimized for that. (That being said, A famous Twitch Streamer did go all the way across the galaxy in a Sidewinder, so the cobra can do that as well).

And it is also the fastest ship in the game under boost. If you want to run, nothing will catch you.
Here is a link to my current build to give you an idea.

I swap out one of the smaller Cargo Racks for a scoop when I need to run far missions.

The only other ship that comes close to the Cobra for all around use is the Asp. But its much more expensive.

Asp is great but not yet, it cost much more than you have. Now.
Next week maybe?
I recommend going with a c rated cobra it will be a giant leap up from a sidey and I'm sure you can buy that right now :)

I just stole loriath's fit, dumped the scanner and got c rated internals, the cost goes down to a comfortable 1.2 mil

A Cobra starting point for me would be:

http://coriolis.io/outfit/cobra_mk_iii/ ... =.Aw1-kA==

Once you have some trading/smuggling/missions under your belt, with some more cash (and assuming you wanted to do some exploration) this would change to:

http://coriolis.io/outfit/cobra_mk_iii/ ... emp%20Cob2

Which is an additional 6.7ish mill - That could drop if you were happy to run with no guns (or lesser ones/fewer) and would increase the jump range to

Well the Cobra would certainly be the ship to aim for, for your first 'big' upgrade, but an Adder would be a good intermediate upgrade. The Adder would give you an immediate boot to cargo space and jump range, with a bit more fire power.

Personally, I went Sidewinder --> Adder --> Cobra --> Cobra + Type 6 --> Asp, etc... Once you are in the Asp then you can really do anything you want

Bottom line you want to get out of the sidey fast.

Thank you all so much for all the information and load-outs. It really helps a lot!!!

I agree TorTorden my goal was to get out of that Sidewinder very quick. I was just cruising around exploring and scanning and doing the occasional BB mission. Then the money started coming in (not as quick as it could be) so I just kept doing what I was doing. But I am sick of the Sidewinder now!!!

Xebeth my original plan was to go with a Adder then the Cobra, but I seem to have enough money now (close to it) to go with a Cobra and skip the Adder. Is there any reason to go with a Adder over the Cobra at this point? I am not really interested in combat at all if that makes any difference. At least right now I am not. :)

Thanks again for all the help and tips!!!

Stay safe out there!!!
