Is there a ship you go back to and why?

Postby smartroad » Sat Jan 09, 2016 11:25 am

I was wondering if people find they have a ship that they 'just like'? Even if there are better ships out there for a given task?

Mine is the Python. I just love the look of it, love piloting it. For me it is the best of the multipurpose ships. Good combat potential, large cargo space and reasonable jump range. I also love the way it looks both in flight and, especially, landed; low, squat, menacing. When it is on a planets surface it has lights all over itself which look great in the dark, but also its landing gear just looks right. That the hull is actually part of the landing skids looks excellent, some other ships landing gear makes the ship look 'odd' (to me of course :) ). I am half tempted to sell my Anaconda and buy a second Python for an exploring role.

No matter which ship I go into, even the classic Cobra Mk.III, I am always happy to be back in my Python.

Is there anyone else who has a ship they just click with? Are there any ships you wish you would click with but can't (mine is the Viper Mk.III,I want to love the little ship (love its design) but it just doesn't work for me).

Python and Vulture.

The Python is simply THE multipurpose ship without being as unwieldy as the anaconda for planetary landings etc.

The vulture is well the vulture :P

Sometimes I get bored easily, so to add some variety to ED I have a number of fully kitted out ships so I can switch and change my playstyle.

Vulture - I love being relatively small, but supremely mavoeuvrable and with a heavy punch, and there's some cargo space in mine that gets used often enough.
Imperial Courier - It's just nice to fly, mine is kitted out to be light, fast, with a decent range. It's not a combat ship, but can hold it's own, it's a smuggler, no-one can scan the slipper little sucker.
Python - My go anywhere, do anything truck, capable of hauling 200 tonnes or dishing out damage, the one-stop community goal machine.
Asp - One day I'll go back to the Cobra, but the Asp has everything I need, jump range, cargo space, guns, when I don't know what to do, the Asp can do it.
Fer-De-Lance - Another ship that's just pleasant to fly about in, I'm not sure I've properly clicked with it yet, but if you don't need cargo space it's the nicest thing to sit in.

None of these are kitted out in the most efficient standard way, all of them are general purpose to some degree, but all bring a smile to my face when I get back in them, followed by a minor accident when I realise that you can't land a Python like a Courier or the Fer-De-Lance's canopy is on the top, not the front.

I'm not a one-ship guy and I'm sure I can find something I like in virtually any ship. Normally I dislike new ships, but once I take the time to tune them and learn what they are about I can find something I like.

Hmm, more difficult to answer than I though it would be.

If I was only allowed to keep one of my ships then it would be the Python, it was the ship I wanted more than any other when I first started playing, and I still think it's one of the best looking ships, and is the ultimate multi-purpose ship (IMHO).

However, I often find myself coming back to my Asp, which I just find a fun ship, and the one that makes me feel most like that independent mercenary.

But that said, the Cobra MkIII always makes me smile...

Eagle - it's the best looking ship in the game imho, plus it's incredibly fun to fly. While it has peashooter weapons and paper armour, it's maneuverable enough to have a realistic chance of beating NPC Anacondas. :)

Hello,

Easy. Python.
Tried a number of other ships. And she's the one my hands itch to control.
I like my Cobra and my Cutter. But after flying them for awhile I always seem to find an excuse to get back into Lady Jayne. :)

I tried to like the Python, but I didn’t. I like how she looks, but I do mostly bounty hunting and I couldn’t stand her lack of maneuverability. She made me feel like a sitting duck.

I loved the Vulture in combat, but honestly I didn’t use her since I got the Corvette, which is like a Vulture on steroids. The only thing the Vulture has that the Corvette lacks is the front cockpit. I like being able to look up in the Vulture (using a head tracker obviously makes a difference, here). In the Corvette, you just look at the ceiling.

I like the Federal Assault Ship, too. Used it for some time in combat, and pretty much nothing could match a wing of two of them. But if you can afford a Corvette, the only advantage the FAS has left is the ability to dock at outposts.

The Conda is a great multipurpose ship. Probably the best, IMO. Huge cargo, huge punch, huge range. If I could afford only one ship, she would probably be my choice.

The Asp is my favorite for many purposes. I use her for exploring, smuggling, and when I need to go some distance to cash bounties in. I love her front cockpit that allows you to look pretty much everywhere around you. I used her in combat for a while, too, but I stopped when I got the Vulture.

And I frequently use an Eagle when I need to go cash in bounties in nearby systems that only have outposts. Flying the Eagle after the Conda or even after the Corvette feels like driving a sport car after a truck.

I can see the Corvette getting nerfed if it's that manoeuvrable, it's more than 50% heavier than an Anaconda with the same thrusters.

Well, it’s not quite as manoeuvrable as the Vulture, but it’s not very far behind.
