Conflict Zones and decorum

Postby MarrV » Mon Mar 16, 2015 1:44 pm

Right guys,

I have been away a while (last time i played we were 1400 members i think) but after spending a few hours on ts the seems to be an issue under the surface that is not being addressed;

If you enter a combat zone it should not be a free for all. You pick a side and and fight for that side, thus staying within the "spirit", shouldn another commander pick the opposing side then your free to target & kill them.

I think it is against the spirit of the group to sit as a "neutral" & shoot other commanders & then reply with "combat zone, anything goes". It does not, we are a PvE group governed by rules and if you want "anything goes" go to open play.

Therefore I propose a clarification to the Combat zone pvp rule; you MUST choose a side, if you sit as neutral (un-aligned) & target other commanders you are in breach of the spirit of the group as your trying to engage in PvP with no consquence in a PvE group.

It's already in the policy
Inside warzones the following rules apply:

It is not allowed to attack a neutral player (a player not having chosen a faction)
It is not allowed to attack another player while being neutral (not having chosen a faction oneself)
It is not allowed to attack another player on the own chosen faction
Only if both players have activly chosen opposing factions may they engage in combat
It is not allowed to exit and enter a warzone in rapid succession for the sole purpose of targeting other players. Only if the wrong faction was chosen by mistake or by mutual agreement of the present players (For example in order for everybody to join the same faction).

That rule already exists (see the policy page), so no clarification is needed.

However, some commanders don't know the rules or don't know how to chose a side. So if you see neutral commanders shooting at you or other commanders, I'd suggest you to first open a comm with these commanders and to tell them that what they're doing is against the rules. If they persist, then make a screenshot showing them shooting (F10), and PM it here to an admin or a mod, and they'll be dealt with.

I'm confused about engagement of another Mobius member at a conflict zone. Being a PvE group I'd have expected the standard etiquete to be 'do NOT engage unless both Cmdrs open comms and agree'. Is that not the case?

I just wanted to pipe in for those few newer forum members that are not sure about how to choose sides or what all of this Conflict Zone stuff means.

Anywhere you see a "Low Intensity Conflict Zone", "High Intensity Conflict Zone", "Convoy Beacon" and I'm sure other types of locations on your Left Target Panel (default = 1), those are specific areas where you will need to pick a side for whatever event is going on. Which side you pick is up to you but it does matter if you have picked up a quest at one station or another.

So for instance, right now there is a big community combat event going on in the Lugh system. If you get the combat quests from either the Lugh for Equality (Federation and found in Hartsfield Market) or The Crimson State Group (Independent and found in Baladin Gateway) or both if you want to play both sides at different times, then when you enter into any one of those specific conflict zones you will need to choose your side.

To choose your side bring up your Right System Panel (default = 4) and navigate to the last tab called Functions. From this tab the first item is Faction and you will be able to choose from the list of conflicting sides that are involved in this area. So in the example above you will choose between Lugh for Equality or Crimson State Group.
Once you have picked a side, everyone on the opposing side is fair game even in our Mobius Group. If you accidentally fire upon a friendly on your side you will start seeing many red or purple targets (if you are in a wing) - leave the conflict zone immediately and then return and choose your side again (if it doesn't remember).
Remember to pick up the quests for this fight at designated nearby stations or systems. You will still get some credits for each kill of your enemy, but you will even get a greater reward if you have the regular quest turn in for X number of kills or REALLY good credits for the different tiers of the community combat event.
Hopefully that clears it up a bit and I'm going only from memory so if something is inaccurate or doesn't make sense can a fellow member please update. I will be playing in the Lugh System for this combat event and inviting fellow players to join me for both factions (obviously at different times).
