ooh, hard to say - i have over 7000 bounties but i started using a KWS partway through my career, and one kill can give more than one bounty with a KWS

i really need to find a working conflict zone, i'll never rank up in a RES.

I ranked up to Deadly at around 7800 (bounties + combat kills) in an Anaconda, if you do it in a smaller ship against bigger higher ranked targets you progress quicker.

i used a Vulture - with one beam, one pulse, and reasonably well shielded. but it got damaged a couple of times and i had to go home early to repair. gotta watch out for those little sidewinder wingmen... they sometimes look like they're running away but then they turn hostile and come back while your attention is on the main enemy ship

that's why i was hoping to find a conflict zone; enemies in RESs aren't as tough as the CZ ones and the highest rank i've seen them at in a RES is Master. the only CZ i managed to find is in Codorain, but it's broken - there's only one team, flying around in a circuit. i visited a few other places i heard had CZs but they were gone by the time i got there

I'm dashing about in various Federation systems around Sol, desperately doing federation missions (that don't involve fighting) in order to get in their good books enough for them to offer me a Sol permit. Done 4 or 5 missions for them so far and I seem to be creeping up in their estimations, albeit vary slowly. I did have an offer of a missions from the Federation navy who note that I have a "leaning to the Federation" and asked me to carry some illicit cargo for them, namely a couple of slaves. I have managed to do this but I'm still working on getting my permit.

Tau Ceti is a Federation system with two industrial (I think) stations (Ortiz Moreno Station and erm...Graham Terminal, I think, but the latter is the furthest out so I didn't really bother with it) and one agricultural (Gilmour Orbiter), and I spent some time there taking trade missions requiring goods from within the system - just went back and forth 'tween Ortiz Moreno and Gilmour carting food and machinery or whatever and got them both to like me fairly quickly, and started seeing offers of Federal missions.

Just spent about 3 hours in a RES in Almad, returned and handed in 8Mil worth of bounties.
