Yeah the Steam front-end is a software library platform, or steam likes to call it an Online Gaming Platform. Just a good place to have all your games (and you can specificity location installs if you don't like the default on C:Drive). I think its good because it is very gamer friendly with a bunch of great deals and a lot of little extra informational services, stuff like friends/community recommendations, preferences based on playlists or your ratings, game history, friends history, badges, Linux and Mac libraries, etc. With a game like ED or others that also use a launcher (some Origin and Ubisoft games), you will still load it through steams interface AND the launcher will still come up to do the update. But I think Steam keeps the launch up to date for you.
Honestly, I like Steam but like I said I probably won't put ED on there because I have too many other games in there and friends on there that don't play ED so it would be a distraction. But we do have a ElitePVE Steam Community on there so more of our private group to interact with.
