Paint Jobs

Postby Loriath » Mon May 11, 2015 5:21 pm

I like the fact that you can get paint jobs for your ship. What I don't like is having to buy a pack for ONE ship.

I would like to be able to buy a colour scheme for ALL ships.

Since you can't buy just one colour, for all ships (some ships are left out) this is the next best thing.

They are selling 6 colours for one ship for 4 pounds. Some singles for 2. They currently have 17 ships, 2 more coming in 1.3, so lets say 20 ships for argument sake. If I wanted one colour scheme that I could apply to all 20 ships, what do you think would be fare for that? 20 pounds? 25?

And why are then not selling decals? I am sure that people would buy them. I would. Its another source of revenue. What do you think?

£20 would be fair for a multi-ship single colour paint pack.

I'd also like to be able to design paint jobs, they could provide a range of patterns and colours in some form of configurator that allows you to mix and match, once you are happy with your design you could buy it for one ship and save it for later purchases for others, or buy a multi-ship pack.

As for decals, I agree they should sell them, faction decals would be most obvious, but they could also do other shapes like skulls & cross-bone for pirates (I'm sure I've seen this on NPC pirates), weigh scales for traders, or a variety of animal and abstract designs.

People would lap up decals, especially if they were cheep, say £0.50 or even £1.

I think they should have faction, corporate sponsors..advertising etc logo to earn by doing missions.

so you can put however many decals you want on your ship..like a nascar or formula 1 racer lol

Lavian Brandy, Solar Flare Cologne, etc.

I would do this. Would be cool especially for the Elite Racer crowd.

i'd like a 'user' slot for skins.

one of the potential issues raised about user skins is that besides the extra network traffic loading up everyone else's skins, some 14 year olds would put genitalia or other offensive graphics on their skins

in Rise of Flight, we were given Photoshop templates for the planes and we could modify them but you would only see your own and not the other person's - if i had a face painted on mine and you had a falcon, i'd always see a face, you'd see a falcon

users were able to submit their skins online and the community would take a vote as to which would be included in the next official Community Skin Pack - these could be seen by any player if they had checked the option to make them visible in-game, and had downloaded the appropriate pack

i think such a system could work well for ED

I was thinking the same thing last night. Give me the templates so I can make my own skin, even if I am the only one that sees it. As long as I can see it, as long as it shows up in my screenshots, then I am happy. Same for Decals. This would be free for people to use. But also give us the true in games skins as I have stated above.

My guess is that we will see more decals coming in 1.3 as an obvious way to show allegiance to a Power. As to why they haven't flooded the store with different paint jobs and decals to buy now, my only guess would be that they feel it's something to introduce in a slow controlled manner.
They will have the stats to show them which types of paint-jobs (or packs) are the most popular and hence bring in the most cash. They can then plan which ones come in the future. If they flooded the store there would undoubtedly be threads quickly complaining that they are focusing on raising money not fixing bugs.

As to different types of packs, where would it end? The plan is that there should be 30 ships, according to the communications before launch. Should one pack cover them all? Some paint scheme wouldn't work with some ships I'm sure.

The potential is huge though, I'm sure we will see a lot more to come. Personally I would love to see a matte black scheme on a Python, it's a joke waiting to happen :D

Pretty much what clivewil said; I'm all good with having just client-based skins. That pretty much covers everything (including decals).

Not sure how that would affect sales though. War Thunder also has free client-based custom skin along with what you can buy for server-based skins iirc, which I have no idea if it worked out for them.
