Watch out for Dangerous Sensor Bug!

Postby PulsarShark » Wed Jul 29, 2015 12:04 am

Apparently not everybody's sensor display is painting commander blips as hollow. This can cause some ugly friendly-fire incidents!

Heard of this a little while ago, guess its still around.

Haven't been exposed to it myself yet, but its one reason I tend to have the bandwidth meter up when I expect I could possibly encounter players (ctrl+b, i think)

It displays uploading bandwidth and downloading bandwidth, as soon as a player share instance with you this jumps from a couple of KB/s to a few Mb/s, and is as such functional as an early warning system since you would only see players if they where otherwise in sensor range (at most 7km, if I remember correct).

In Mobius this simply means time to say hi in local chat :-P
It also helps to quickly diagnose broken wings/instances etc.

Rule 1: Pillage. Then burn.
Rule 2: No such thing as overkill, as long as there are reloads.

I had this happen the other day. I thought it was because of crap C rated sensors. I saw two Clippers attacking each other. I though it was strange, but one was wanted so I blew it away. Then suddenly the other blip was hollow, but it was definitely solid a few seconds before. Anyway, I apologized for sniping his kill. Lucky he didn't have a bounty as I'm not sure I would have noticed the CMDR. I've been paying more attention since that happened.
It's time to give this another go.
