Could you explain in really simple terms how to upgrade the Hauler to 20t? I've got 14t (3 x 4t racks and 1 x 2t). No shields, no weapons.

What else can I remove (safely), and can you buy racks that take more tonnage, if so where?

Cheers.

P.S. Only half way to that Cobra :x

Yes ... Styx . Try Wingrove, and if not there, try Bixby.
It might take a few jumps to get there, but I believe its 1 jump from I Bootis.

You should be able to upgrade the original racks that you had, to ones of a bigger capacity.
Plus exchanging your shield generator for a rack, gives you a total of 20 cargo space .
Its worth getting rid of the shields if your not going to get involved in any shooting in your hauler.
I cant remember the exact combo, but the Ive not been able to get over 20 tonne in a hauler.
Good luck ! You'll have that Cobra in no time ! :)

Yup - that about sums it up!

I changed my two 4t holds for 8t ones, then sold the shield generator to make space for one of the 4t holds, which I then bought back. All at Styx/Wingrove. Shame you can't just move them around on the ship.

It does leave you exposed, but I did it when I only had about 20,000cr to go to my next ship.

I probably could have bought it after selling those parts, though! :P

Never though of that

btw - loving those screens, Cmdr Flip!

Up to 22T. 2x8, 1x4 and 1x2. Limits your laden jump range to 6.9 though.

53K on a Frame Shift Drive and the laden goes to 13LY. 22LY unladden.

I see even Tesco is into this now (the wide monitor thang):

LINKY.

Wonder if the £350 is reasonable? Have to call on my friend...

Just traded in the Hauler for a Cobra, and spalshed out 100KCr on a new Frame Shift as well as upgrading the cargo capacity to 24T. Was down to my last 1000Cr after that!! Now trying to build up a bit of cash between 14 Herculis and G 180-18 shipping synthetic meat. Then I'll move back to some other commodity when I have enough cash to get the hold filled with more profitable products.

I had a good 4 hour session last night.

I found myself well out of range of the "Home" starports, and even thrudd's route planner was unable to find a way for me to get home, with my reduced range due to the amount of cargo holds (44) fitted to my Cobra III.

This wasn't a bad thing, however, as I found my range limited to a triangle of systems - two of which were very lucrative. These were Aulis and Ithaca. I was taking missions that had plenty of time, then waiting for the bulletin board to update 2 to 3 times and adding more. There were 3 to 4 missions (or sometimes more) per update, so I always ended up with 6 to 8 missions to fly, then add some low-cost runs. Missions often paid out over 50k.

I ended up going back to Styx (which turned out to be only about 3 jumps away in an empty ship) with enough for a Type 6 and still have over 120k left to spend.

However, I have to say I wasn't overly impressed with the difference between the Type 6 and my upgraded Cobra III. In fact, it looked like a worse deal! The jump range was only 3ly more, and the cargo I could carry was 50t - just 6t up on the Cobra - and adding more would mean reducing the jump range.

So, with only two days to go (now one) to the partial wipe and big update, I ditched the Type 6 and bought myself a Viper. I did try to upgrade it, as I then had about 800,000cr or more in cash - but all I could do was fit a kill scanner and some gimballed multi-cannon extendeds to my ship. No upgrades at all available for the thrusters or engines (plenty of those for the Sidey, mind) or shield generators. Not sure how much the shield cells work and if they are worth it.
I was also loathe to spend too much on extras of dubious actual improvement, in case it upped the insurance cost.

So, tonight it's a 'last hurrah' for Beta 2 and I'm off to do some hard fightin'!

Cmdr Nemetos tells me Wyrd is where the fightin' money is, so that's where I'll be heading, to start with.

GERRRRRONIMOOOOOO!!! :D

I got most of the upgrades for my Viper at Styx's Bixby stations (that includes thrusters, and engine).

To use the shield cells, you assign a button to it, and you have to trigger it before your shield is completely down. It's definitely worth it, IMO. It uses munitions so you can use it 6 times, if I remember correctly, before you have to re-stock.

And yeah, all those increase the insurance cost. My Viper's insurance has more doubled with the upgrades I got (it's now about 58Kcr).
