One day I may get the stick, but I'm happy as hell with a Silver coated practice round and shell casing from that GAU-8 Avenger ^,^

No rudders is a no-no, for me. I don't want to use pedals.

As others have said it has more buttons than you need, I now only have to touch the keyboard to type.

I would love to see your set up with the X55.. is it possible to make it so that if you turn PTY 3 your landing gear goes down and if you turn it the opposite way they go up, instead of having to turn then turn back then turn it again to trigger the action?

Is there anything out there with a twist stick for rudder yaw worth its salt?

Flip wrote:I really like the X55's features and all, but unfortunately it's built like shit. On my first one, the rudder's spring broke after a few months, so it no longer centered automatically. Bit of a PITA but I could still use it. Then a couple of months later, all the buttons on the throttle stopped working. Turns out the wires inside are positioned in such a way that each time you move the throttle, you bend those wires at the same exact place. So after a while they fatigue and break. It's only a matter of time.

It was still under warranty, so back it went. And rather than waiting 3 weeks before I could play ED again, I ordered another brand new one. That was six months ago or so. And since then, both have started developing faults of their own, so now I'm using parts from one to fix the other each time it's necessary (a HAT broke on one, another button broke on the other, now the wheel at the left of the throttle of the one I'm using only registers in one direction, the rudder of the other has developed a lot of friction so it no longer centers correctly, etc.). That really sucks, but as always with that level of products, all the parts are made with the cheapest possible stuff, so unless you play once a week, don't expect it to last for more than six or height months.

It's either that or buying an expensive one that has only a few features.

I've got everything programmed onto my CH Pro Throttle and Fighterstick with room to spare for another dozen commands. They weren't cheap, but the build quality is impressive.

I tried a Thrustmaster - for about a week. It simply wasn't responsive enough for my taste. (Which was unexpected - many years ago, I used a Thrustmaster when flying Descent and it was superb.) Ordered an X52 Pro and have been quite happy with it, but I'd also suggest searching eBay for a "Spring Tension Adjustment Plate." It's a little 3D printed washer that tightens up the spring/stick interface and takes out the slack. The dealer I purchased mine from sent two different thicknesses, so I could pick the tension I preferred.

You'll probably find that the default control assignments don't quite fit your style, but it's easy to tweak them no the fly until they're "just right."

Not sure what your "cockpit" looks like, but I also picked up a sheet of acrylic from the local hardware store that's the right size to fit on my roll-out keyboard tray. A couple strips of velcro make it easily installed or removed, and the X52 suction cups hold onto the plastic even during hard maneuvers. There's the added bonus of being able to mount a string of LEDs to the edge and have the whole thing glow green to match my on screen cockpit... (at which point my wife rolled her eyes and made a few acid remarks about grown men...)

Good luck!

Thanks for the tip, Walter! I had a look on Amazon, but they're out of stock and they don't know if they'll get them again or not. Is CH still in business?

CH Products make control systems for industrial applications - joysticks for gaming seems to be a long-running sideline for them: http://www.chproducts.com/13-28464-Home.php
I bought the throttle from: http://www.flightstore.co.uk/simulation ... ttle-p2442
and the Fighterstick from: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/ch-fight ... for-pc-mac

I have had a T-Flight Hotas X since December and I have had no trouble with it at all. I have only two gripes with it, I use the little hat that sits on top on the flight stick for the thrusters and have found this not to be ideal as it's very easy two hit two axes when you think you are only on one e.g. thrusting down to the left instead of just down, but then I could find some other bindings for them I guess. Only other thing is not really a problem, but I wish I had more buttons.

Other than that, IMHO, you get a lot of Hotas for your money.

Just my tuppence worth.
