CMDR Clypsis here, I am happy to find this group of like minded Spacers. I have been playing Elite exclusively in Solo mode to avoid PvP since I purchased the game approximately 3 months ago. I have played other MMOs with both open PvP and Segregated PvP and have come to the conclusion that I hate PK and corpse camping (if that give an indication as to the games I played in the past) and now FSD Interdiction. I enjoy the idea of co-op play but like the freedom of going my own way as well.
I am 36 hail from Seattle WA. but being in the Navy (Submariner Radioman by trade) I currently live in Japan. As well as being a military veteran I am a gaming veteran, I have been playing Space-Sims since I shot down my first TIE Fighter in Lucas Arts' X-Wing space sim followed by the TIE Fighter game, other titles include Wing Commander, Privateer, Descent: Freespace, I beta'd Electronic Arts MMO Earth & Beyond, X: Beyond the Frontier through X Rebirth, Eve Online, and more I can't remember i'm sure.
I've always been fascinated by the dream of one day traveling through space with the same relative ease at we currently travel around our Tiny Blue Planet, watching Cowboy BeBop the "life was to short" fantastic FireFly and similar shows, daydreaming about earning a living traveling through space, living onboard ship. Being in the Navy I do get a taste of that life but it's clearly not the same. As such with the gaining popularity and full support for VR I hope and look forward to Frontier opening up the ship interiors allowing movement around inside the ships.
So until the future becomes now, Elite is the closest I can get to achieving that feeling. Next upgrade for my PC will be to experience Elite in VR. The addition of planetary landings and SRV in a true to life 1:1 scale virtual environment has been a welcome expansion I look forward to how far Elite will expand by the end of Frontier Developments planned 10 year life cycle.
