Re: The Distant Worlds Expedition

So after a week off, I still tried to land at the Eagle Nebula base camp. I got distracted trying to find the coordinates, and really needed to pee, and so I forget to reactivate my shields. I barely kissed the surface and got 5% hull damage. :x

Screw good exploration technique - I'm going just leave my shields and PD powered. It really doesn't affect me for normal scoops and I'm not going to forget and land w/o shields again!
It's time to give this another go.

Damn it! I take my head set off so I can stuff my face. On my second jump I enter a trinary system between two stars. I'm not paying that much attention so I don't really notice until I see steam/smoke rising from my instrument panel. W/o sound or head tracking I have no situational awareness. I manage to pop a heat sink and navigate out w/o any serious damage. I'm glad I brought along 2 heat sinks, because I'd already accidentally fired one off when I unknowingly changed fire groups.

Now I'm getting worried - they say bad things come in threes.

Do you have an AFM or two?

Yup, but too bad we can't repair hull damage or manufacture heat sinks. Maybe we'll get a patch.

I'm about 6,000LY behind and trying to catch up.

This little system cost me another 2% hull <_<. The neutron star apparently crashed me into the nearby sun. But notice the sun doesn't appear on the sensors? I've never seen that before.

Possible because the Neutron is the A Body and you need to scan the B body? If you pop into a Binary or Trinary system, only the A body is auto discovered until you honk, regardless of how close the other stars are. Its a dumb thing if you think about it as I have dropped in where the B Body of the Binary is much larger and has a larger mass of the A body but the A Body is the only one auto discovered until I honk.

I had already honked, and it showed up on the system map, but I couldn't select it.
