The other one I'm waiting for is Galaxy on Fire 3 - Manticore, which should keep the space games going while on the move (or on the crapper).

In the beginning there was Everquest it was new and it was good and then there was WOW and the MMO world was stood on its ear and for many years WoW reigned supreme. At its pinnacle of success they boasted 12 million subscribers. Imagine (12 million X 14.95) X 12 income! Then things changed, challengers appeared, different cash models were introduced and the great monsters started to fall. It is now down to 3 million which is still a ton of people and the income is still huge. But my point is that competition is what drives a company to improve on its product and if they don't listen and they don't adapt, then they cease to exist or at the very least they become the 2nd to last choice.

ED is like a pioneer reestablishing a genre and they have made great strides and once I am over my "pissed off" mood about it I will continue to play and kill civilians and love it :P

With a strong competitor such as SC, FD will have to pick up the pace and improve or pass away.

Is SC actually being released within the next 5 years? Somehow I have lost faith that it will ever be out.
I have not been actively following the progress, but it seems to me that there are some modules of the game being built here and there but nothing's actually ready.
That said I've seen a planetary landing video recently and I have to admit it looked really pretty and seamless, no 8 second pauses like in ED (entering glide). But that alone did not convince me that the game will be out someday.
I would love to see it playable one day, don't want this age of "space game boom" dry out too soon. :) But for this one, I do have my doubts.
I play on PC, in the Mobius PVE Eurasia group.

I might be off base and my foundation is utterly Internet here say.

But from what I hear Roberts pretty much doesn't know what feature creep is and until Microsoft bought digital anvil, freelancer was considered vapor ware.
Honestly people back then was mentioning freelancer in the same sentence as Duke nukem forever.

Ms basically took Roberts by the scruff of his neck. Put some polish on freelancer and pushed both out the door.
And basically the reason he ever managed to get his games out the door was publishers getting fed up and pushing him to put the bow tie on the box.
It will be interesting to see what happens now without the publisher to provide the stick.
Will it take a class action lawsuit ?
Or has he learned something?

As for ED vs SC.
Well SC currently reeks of pay2win and that leaves me rather uninterested.
But I believe there are still room for more than one space arcade/sim in my life but I am waiting for an actual product not alpha tech demos.

Rule 2: No such thing as overkill, as long as there are reloads.
