After refitting my baby it looked like an eggshell with an engine. Seriously, light weight allow and no shields? Heats sinks and cargo racks. All D rated modules with an A5 FSD and a B5 fuel scoop ( didn't have the cash for an A)

Ok now lets see, jump range is a bit over 30 unladen and off we go from HIP 16607. 14 jumps, looks decent. On my original Asp build it was 30 jumps from Cubeo.

Well I made it there and plenty of fuel and only ran across 3 dead stars. Now I looked over the missions and took enough to total 13 million in rewards. Now just have to make it back......NOT :(

I was interdicted on the 1st jump, escaped and then on the 2nd, I was interdicted again and silent running is about as useful as a one legged man in an ass kicking contest and the paper mache hull fell apart in like 3 seconds. End of my career as a smuggler :(

I did manage to make "Pathfinder" on the trip down though :)

Hummm..... I'm too much of a chicken to ever run without shields. Here is my Asp long range smuggler setup.

I don't use silent running. Just boost, chaff (only when needed), jump, after submitting to interdiction. Flying in an evasive manner helps a lot when the pirates/cops are following you in SC. Weaving around to keep them from getting behind you keeps them from being able to interdict you. Once I got some practice, I was making Robigo runs with 14-18 deliveries and only a handfull of interdictions. Don't forget too that if a cop is scanning you and you deploy hardpoints, it stops his scan for a few seconds. ;)

That's great information JohnLuke and your smuggler build is very similar to my standard build. My Standard build is a Mission Runner/Exploration ship that will turn and fight and unless its bigger, its dead! FDS and down is chopped meat, a FDL and FAS are a challenge and I avoid FGS, Python and Anaconda like the plague. lol

This is the build that I found on the web by someone that swore she used, personally I don't see how it works. First off even with silent running it wouldn't survive an interdiciton and how does a pilot evade a scan at a station with a docking computer? :o My first red flag should have been the docking computer as this person is not playing with a full deck :( Well that's what I get for not asking in Mobius first!

I just made Count, still in this grind. At some point I got fed up, I switched to courier missions to break the routine. After lunch I tried my luck again and indeed my luck changed, not so many missions for Metcalf but lots of charity missions appeared during the BB switch.

BTW, getting the Cutter means by default lots of trading, otherwise this whole grind is useless, not a matter of question.

Try the Xi Wangar - Waanganici - Tamar cycle. Xi Wangar was still working okay yesterday. Plus you get 20k, 15k, 7k and 3k charity missions. Altho the 20k one is infrequent.

My smuggler asp most certainly had Shields. I suspect combat ranking matters when dealing with interdictions.
I too see these shield less unarmed builds and have to shake my head at them.
Sure boosting and jumping out works most times but at least once per run I would get interdicted by a higher level FAS or gunship and no way you outrun that.

Hence Shields. Two medium burst lasers and no less than four seeker missile launchers.
I'm sure cannons would work too but missiles are just a hoot and a half ;)

Just had a hot moment jumping in between these two stars. The heat level jumped though the roof, but I managed to supercruise out without taking damage.

The build that you shared with no shields is just crazy! :P Besides no shields, a 6A scoop? Really? That's a lot of money to tie up in a Robigo runner, and it kills the cargo space. It makes you wonder why some people come up with the configurations that they do. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

Your Asp build however, makes perfect sense. I guess great minds do think alike! LO! The only thing I do to mine to change it to a BB runner is swap the fuel scoop for a cargo rack, and add an SRV slot for those surface missions. ;)

Just bought my Cutter! :D

I was surprised today to learn that the Cutter was not available at a Li Yong-Rui station. :(

But... thanks to Google and some folks on the FD forum, I was able to get it at 10% off at Wuru - Weldelin station. God bless the internet!

I love the view out the windshield and the sound of the engines accelerating. 8-) It reminds me of the Clipper (as it should) but a big, fat ass, lumbering version of the Clipper.... of course.

My fleet now consists of just three ships.... the Corvette, Cutter, and Asp. It's a small fleet with HUGE capabilities!
