Horizons with VR recommends a minimum of GTX 980 or equivalent, yet some say a Ti or better is needed for reasonable performance.

And the one's I choose to believe say horizons need optimizing and regardless how powerfull and how many gpu's you throw at the problem in VR doesn't go away.

Yeah. As many have hinted at. We'll be needing really strong PCs to actually run the Vive without hickups. I read somewhere that a single Titan X in a dedicated show room gamer pc was "ok". So we're looking at Titan X sli/crossfire, or preferably fingers crossed for the Pascal cards. sli/crossfire still don't deliver properly. Money is better spent on a higher tier single card.

Will be following vr closely during this year, hoping for major price drops come christmas.

With the delay in the next ED release post-dating the release of Oculus and Vive, you do wonder what support there will be.
That 'other' forum place has a number of VR related threads. One particular post caught my eye, about how all the ED show demonstrations seem to feature VR headsets to try the game on.
I ran the Steam VR performance test and got a shockingly bad result. Then I disabled G-Sync and got a better one.

I think I may take the plunge. If not for ED initially, there are other games that may work...
Might even help me get over the ED addiction ;)

Please keep us posted on your findings when you do. (I think we need a VR emoji...)

Well I don't have an i7 but my comp should still be OK.

But the vive itself is just too expensive.
It can be 3x times (and its really not) the vr system as the rift and it still would be too expensive.
At least for an unknown first gen tech.

Indeed this.

And interesting to note that it is indeed the gfx that runs the show. For gaming purposes an i5 is more than adequate.

Here's the link to the test:

I'll be posting mine (maybe...) when its downloaded and done. :)

The writing on the wall. But I knew it. Still pleased with performance on single screen so not complaining. I wonder what this summer will bring.. :)

Nice card and performance.
Wont fit in my laptop though!

It is a shame there are still problems with getting sli and crossfire to work with VR, which is why I went with the single card opposed to 2x 980M SLI.

Yes, single graphics card capabilities seem to be the key to VR.
I guess processor would be needed for running the tracking etc, but the test does not mimic that.
