Sony lining up for the ultimate E: D VR release?

Postby GlobusDiablo » Wed May 18, 2016 1:55 pm

Playstation Neo (4.5) slated for September
Sony VR slated for October
Thrustmaster HOTAS X 4 for PS4 released
Xbox exclusive running out soon surely...

One sweet package under the Christmas tree if you ask me. :) Fingers crossed.

This might make a great "Budget VR" option for Elite, should it be ported. Might be enough to get my wife into the game, playing alongside me.

EDIT: Just realized this is more OT ...

The only thing better, for me at least, would be to see Elite on Linux/SteamOS, now that Mac isn't keeping up on OpenGL. Valve is building support into the Vive, and Sony (and Nintendo) has long used Linux as its DevKit (since late '90s), then run-time (since the '00s), so it's not that much of a porting effort if they are already targeting the PS4. many of the libraries are similar APIs, and especially since the title is OpenGL already. Linux is just so much easier to support for techs, so the bigger issue is usually the aspect of supporting a 2nd platform, as it adds cost over having just 1 platform. But they were already used to supporting 2 platforms with Mac, which is not removed with 2.x ... so, one can hope.

Indeed. Although it's probably all meant for No Mans Sky... :P

Sorry thebs, but if it does go to PS4, it will be in a separate galaxy as xbox players are now I am sure.

Ouch. Okay, thanx for the note.

That said ... I'm curious if FD will ever make good on their promise of an off-line sub-set of the galaxy? I.e., since they have a lot of discovered and procedurally generated systems now, could they not make an off-line, sandboxed version of the game out to, say, 1,000ly in the future? Might be a nice, additional revenue boost for those won't play on-line at all.

Although, that being said, Sony has been more willing to allow cross play than Xbox, so who knows.
