OMG... that sucks, bud! :( I hope FD is able to restore it for you.

--------------

After doing a ton of BB missions (er, I guess it's MB missions now) over the weekend, I'm relaxing with some A-B-A trade runs in the Cutter. After checking Inara, I found that most of my 2.0 trade routes are still viable post-Engineers. :)

I was tinkering with other trade routes in Inara and thought I found a nice one that was 2/3 of the distance and a little more profitable than one of my regular routes. The data was only a day old and I thought .... what the hell, let's give it a shot.... and flew over to the new station. I docked, check the commodities screen, and learned a lesson.

Be sure you check the quantity on hand before you try out a new route. The station only had 107 tons of the... um..... er.... "human relocation kits" that I was looking for. That's not going to get it when you need 720 tons per run. Lesson learned.

I gotta say.... bookmarks are a Godsend for trade routes! :D

That lesson about enough supply was drummed into my skull during the CGs I did after buying my cutter, especially the Jaques one where the community managed to suck all stations with large pads within 60 LY of Gliese 1269 effectively dry of Hydrogen Fuel.

Talking about lessons learned: How much NPC pirate grief are you getting? A capacity of 720 tons sounds like the standard shielded trader straight out of coriolis.io, similar to what I have parked at Rafferty's Mobius.

My gut feeling is that this is not something I want to take trading in a 2.1 world without some changes. Two point defence turrets near the rear are on the list, but that is pocket change. Any other changes you can already recommend? I do have about 400M on hand, and I'd rather spend that on equipment than insurance. Fortunately, it is not far to LYR space from Azrael, and my experience in 2.1 after the first mad days of huge plasma accelerators thinking they are beam lasers has been rather peaceful, so the travel to the outfitting should not be an issue (knocks on wood, HARD)

Case in point: I did DSS of everything in the Maia system (which is an Anarchy, for crying out loud) with my Cobra MK III with 12 tons of meta-alloys (so 1.2M in commodities) without many interdictions, and the ones I had were handled using plain old, submit, wait for normal space, boost, pips to SYS just in case, keep boosting until the FSD cools down, FSD on again, keep boosting until the countdown starts. And adios, amigos. Chaff? Evasive Action? Superfluous.

Bookmarks are a Godsend, period. The only thing missing is an option to stop the scrolling of the galaxy map to the target system when you plot a route. That just wastes time on A-B-A runs, and if you want to go farther, you want the start area to check where the line turns dashed. Putting bookmarks on arbitrary surface points would also be nice, the Merope 5C approach was annoying.

This is one of several points where this game is Elite: Dangerous lack of ergonomics.

My Cutter looks something like this (no idea how up to date that bookmark is), and I haven't been taken down by pirates once. It's just like any other ship; submit to the interdiction (hope the minigame lets you without screwing you over like it always does), boost away and high wake.

I covered it in turrets mainly just to see what it would be like, I've never used them while I've been in any danger. They did alright in a low RES but I generally wouldn't risk fighting back against a pirate. I kind of burned myself out with trading just to afford it, so I haven't been back in the saddle to build up the bank balance enough that I can do anything risky.

Hello,
Bookmarks is one of the features that I really like in 2.1. Helps me plot routes to my waypoints with just 2 clicks. Previously I had to keep track of my waypoints on Inara and then re-enter the system name whenever I log in.
Currently, still 10k ly from Maia. Hopefully they are still selling Metal Alloys when I get there. Also, has the Soontil Relics being sold at it's normal location?

Have fun, fly safe. o7

It's tough grinding for a livin out here, took a break from Combat as my Joystick (X-55 HOTAS) hand hurts. Not easy locating a comfortable position as the desk, chair, stick and monitors height are either to high or low, etc. difficult finding a good match, not as easy as Goldilocks just right bowl of porridge. Already spent too much on the PC and other gadgets it is a good as it is going to get.

The system I am in is about to go into expansion, so there are a tonne of missions that ask me to find the lost Encrypted Expansion Data. These are quite lucrative. Here is how it works.

You go to the system where the data was lost, and hit your Advanced Discovery Scanner (I think it works with the other Discovery scanners, or you can drop in and scan the nav beacon). It will tell you to look in the vicinity of a particular planet. Head there, find the USS that will be reported as your mission target. Drop in, collect the containers and voilà! Easy money.

It took Dawg and I a few minutes a couple of nights ago how this works, but it was quite easy and the pay was good. It also gives you ++ on rep and influence.

Well, last night I did a few more, And the ones that were above my rank, they were a little rough. Had a wing of Four drop in and pick up some of the data before I could, and they were all wanted. Then they open fire. I did a Code 39 and got away. I flew around for a few minutes and another mission target USS popped up and I was able to complete the mission before the wing showed up again. Cashed in and took another couple. It was a wing of a Cobra, Eagle, and 2 sidewinders, all expert or better. Same names both times, so they were hunting me :P

The next one, I got the cannisters and then got an update to the mission that there were now ships hunting for me, and I would get a bonus for each ship that I destroyed (A total of 4 targets). Cool. First up, Master FAS. I submitted when the target (was named in the update) interdicted me. My little Combat A Rated Engineered modded DBS kicked some ass. But if the Cops hadn't showed up, I would have been toast. Got away with 34% hull. I decided to turn in the mission, but there was a second name in the mission on the transaction tab, but I was not in any shape to get them too.

If you can find these missions, and have good rep with the faction, it can be a good way to make some cash and get more rep for Ranking. Combined with the Expansion Courier missions, you can make a couple of million in about 20 minutes and all you need is 8-16 tonnes of cargo. Not a Tun or Robigo Replacement, but much better than most normal ways.

These new NPCs are really aggressive. I have been chased by an Elite Anaconda for thousand of LSs while scanning a system in my Vette.

I need to get my Multiple role Vette (used to hunt for engineer data) more combat ready but I run out of money so I wanted to downgrade my FDL and Asp Explorer but as they do not have any cargo space and I am carrying rare to find cargo..... grrrrrr!

Anyone up to trading 2xPraseudonium with 2xYttrium that I am looking for? (Is it possible to discard and scoop materials BTW?)
