That lukozer guy's video had nothing to really do with elite dangerous, all he did was sit in the hanger and bitch and moan about how anyone who likes FD or backs their decision are brown-nosers and yes men, and how he feels slighted. I can't see how anyone would actually subscribe to him seeing how other than Elite:Dangerous, the games he plays are 10-20 years old on his channel.

Honestly, I didn't see anywhere on their site, store or even the kickstarter where they promised offline play. I can understand why people would be mad about it, I know a lot of people who played the older games of elite liked that they didn't need to be connected to the internet to play, but if you think about it, in this day and age, most if not all computers are connected to the internet. It's been stated that you can play solo mode with a 10kb/s connection, granted you'd probably have better, which is very minimal when you think about how much bandwidth most modern games use.

I know for me I'll be spending my time in the group section, That's why I joined the group in the first place to play with like minded people who prefer PvE above all, so it doesn't affect me that they're requiring an internet connection to play. As long as they implement some more multiplayer options, like grouping/partying/wings etc, I'll be happy with how the game is right now. The trading is pretty decent, I feel like it would be nice to be able to check prices in game, but for the most part you can follow what ports are importing and exporting and trade that way, the missions are working fine, at least courier and trade missions are (I haven't tried any of the other ones yet), mining could use a bit of TLC, same with exploration, but for the most part I'm content with how they're implemented, and anyone who's tried combat can tell you that it's a very solid part of the game. I see nothing wrong with it, although maybe more weapon types would be nice.

BloodRavenD, I think the point is that if the servers go down (as we have seen oh so frequently) you are stuffed, you cannot play it at all. And, there are some people who through work or other commitments may have to spend some amount of time away from an Internet connection, and it is during those times that they would have wanted Off-Line play.

I'd love to be able to play on a nice laptop using a tethered 3g connection in work. I'm a coach driver and I'm often sitting in my coach between jobs for an hour at a time two or three times a day. If an offline mode was available I wouldn't have to use up my internet allowance on my phone to do that.

Because I don't have a laptop, I play Frontier on a tablet or my phone using an Amiga Emulator. I'd much prefer a laptop but my wife won't let me get one.

I get that Jock, and I did read that they would release the games code if that was ever the case, assuming they keep that promise when the time comes, we should be all set to host our own server if it does happen. I certainly don't see them cutting the servers within a few year at least, especially if actively add more content as time goes on, so it's not like people won't get their money's worth.

As for working with no internet, almost every modern cell phone can be utilized for it's network, assuming you have cell service, so it might cost a bit more, but it is doable to keep on playing. That's just one of the downsides to portable gaming, that you pay more for the same services.

Hi Folks,

Just my take on off-line playing.

I was expecting to be able to have that option but I will still play but the part I really miss is being able to save at any point, even in the middle of a fight.

I do however realise that is not possible with a real time game but with an off-line game there is no reason not to be able to have that option.

My reason for wanting that is that it takes a fair amount of time to go between stations and as I am often interrupted in the middle of a game it is a major problem for me.

Also it means that I cannot play for just a few minutes then put the game on pause then I can come back to were I left off later without any problems.

So I'll just have to play less frequently and look for another off-line game to play as well.

Well, you can save and exit the game at any time. Of course if you're in the middle of a battle, for example, that context will be lost, because you'll respawn in a fresh instance. But in any case, when you'll launch the game again, you'll find yourself at the same location.

Note that if you had a timed mission running, though, the timer wouldn't have stopped and you might find yourself with a fine and a cargo marked as stolen...

Hi Flip,

Thanks for the reply. :D

I thought that was how it worked but thanks for clarifying that for me. :)

Refund update.

Got this from FD today, offering a partial refund:

"We are sorry we were ultimately unable to commit to deliver an acceptable fully offline mode for Elite: Dangerous; we tried for a long time to find a good solution. Should we find a way to do this in the future we will let you know.

After careful consideration of your request we hereby offer you £70 to refund your purchase of the game and your payment for access to all future expansions.

Any other benefits you may have will remain intact and associated with your account in the event that you decide to purchase the game at a future date.

Your acceptance of this offer will indicate that this is a full and final settlement of your refund request.

We thank you for your support of Elite: Dangerous, and hope that circumstances may allow you to play the game in future.

When we receive your confirmation that you accept our offer we will process your refund. This may take several days to arrive. If at any time you have any questions please feel free to keep in contact.

Alternatively, of course we would be delighted to hear that you feel able to cancel your refund request.

Kind Regards,

Support."

I declined and insisted again on a full refund, while arguing for a renewed promise of the Offline mode somewhere down the line. No matter how "watered down and empty" it might be. This would let me stay commited to the game that I've waited for for so long.

Stranger things have happened... Right?....
