Shields Re-enforced and Boosters Heavy Duty ... all Level 3

Postby thebs » Wed Aug 03, 2016 2:45 am

If I had a bigger and better Power Plant and more engineering, I'd be at Class 6A Shields. But because I'm not, I'm just with Class 5C Bi-Weave.

But with 4x Level 3 Heavy Duty Shield Boosters for +175% total, and the 5C Bi-Weave themselves also Level 3 Re-enforced, my shields are now nearly 1,040MJ, and they still recharge at 1.8x normal (albeit not quite as fast as spec Bi-Weave if broken). The re-enforcement bonuses end up stacking from +8 to +18% against K/T/E as well. Not bad since my Anaconda can still make a run with 436t cargo in this configuration. Of course, the Shield Boosters now weigh around 10t/each, which brings down the Anaconda's range more than 1ly, probably closer to 2ly. But it's well worth it IMHO.

When I upgrade and/or engineer the Power Plant more, I'll move to 6A Shields and get over 1,600MJ, and recycle that Class 5A Bi-Weave to a combat kitted Vulture. Although 6A Shields would drop me down to 404t of cargo, and I'll lose another 1ly jump range with the +20t to go from Size 5 to 6 shielding (although fully laden, with -32t cargo, it's actually a little better jump range). Then again, already having more than 1,000MJ of shielding means I can outlast just about anyone to high-wake. And I can jump farther than most NPCs can follow as well. ;)

The Class 4G Multi-Cannon and Class 2T/3T Burst Lasers are all Level 1-3 engineered for maximum efficiency (almost half for the Lasers, yeah, just Level 1) at a cost of rate of fire (-5 to as high as -20%), and my Level 3 Distributor is Charge-rate focused (+16-22%, at a cost of -5.5% total charge). So right now, I'm feeling like I can dish out a crapload of hurt to most pirates who make the mistake of interdicting me, the distributor able to constantly plink away with only 1-2 pips to weapons ... if I just feel like not running that day.

Although I should know it's never good to get too cocky.

Welp, got level 5 with Martuuk.. though I haven't the ingredients to craft that level 5 FSD gear.

I'm also an idiot. Took on about 3M, maybe more, in missions to take out a single planetary colony's generator. As I am approaching the target I realize two things, I have no guns on my ship, and I have no SRV. At least the mission source is on the same planet.

I'm also loving flying just above the drop line for planets cause it's funny seeing pirate chatter, them approaching then zooming past and dropping from SC.

Hello,
Upon chancing on a post by one of the CMDRs here, I changed my Pythons weapons load out to 3 C3G Multis and 2 C2T beams. Simply wow!!! For some reason I feel as if I'm cheating.
Really beats my previous config of 2 C2G overcharged multis, 2 C3G efficient pulses and 1 C3G beam.

yeah you blew passed me on your second trip a while ago. Jeeze, I feel slow XD

I suspected CB was using a thargoid/borg enhanced FTL quite a while back.

Well, Ms. Farseer was mumbling about resistance being futile every once in a while ;) Not too sure about it though, that was shortly after landing the cutter on a planet for the first time EVER, and the pucker factor of doing that was rather high. The next landing at BC2 was worse, seems the cutter does some interesting things when doing wild manoeuvring at throttle 0, almost ended up doing an ass first lithobreaking.

Oh well, "Good Training". And the old rule of docking small boats still applies, there is no such thing as "too slow".

That happened to me as well, almost every time the game has to display the scroll bar in the congratulations window. I got the following quote from a fellow explorer on the Mobius discord: "Yeah, i figured out that if you wait until all the first discovery notifications come up, then press left to go to the main menu, then right to "close" the first discovereds, it doesnt crash. Any other order it does."

That's from an XBox One reddit of all places, but it seems to be applicable for the PC version as well. I typically use the POV hat of my joystick to navigate the menu, and doing left/right on the POV hat fixed the problem for me.

Sounds like you needed about 100,000 cr per percentage point at level 4, just like me.

Oh well, in other news, I am 3,000 LY away from Jaques on my return trip. With just 26 stills in the hold, the cutter is back to a jump range of 33 LY, so the troubles with the route plotter are back (Dear FDev, fix this). But with just 32 rather than 50 jumps per kylie, progress is still faster than on the way in. Still in "all haste, all haste, all haste" mode, otherwise known as "only honk, scoop, and jump" or "buckyballing it".

Went to the black hole / Neutron star pair yesterday. Boy those Neutron stars are treacherous ... a tiny dot on radar (as they should with 3km diameter), suddenly temperature jumps up and near-fires the ship.
Even more impressive: Surfing "over" the event horizon of a black hole. That gives a strange lens effect there. And the feeling ... like ship could get crunshed any second. Managed the Surfing even without being ripped out of supercruise. Aiaiaiaiai!

Yeah, that was me. It has been working well.

But I did run into a problem yesterday. There was a Python and Adder wing. I started taking out the Adder first, as I usually do, but he was proving extra resilient. Next think I know the Python is going medieval on my buttocks. Lost shields fast, and after fumbling around in the nav panel, I finally managed to high-wake out with 9% hull left.

I can't seem to get the Python to turn worth a damn, even with 4 pips in engines and FA off turns. I think I might try a 2x C3G Multi setup in the Vulture and then check into engineering mods to make them work better against shields.
It's time to give this another go.

Beam v. Pulse v. Burst

I'm mixed on this.

I mean, I like C3 Burst Turrets, especially engineered efficient. Beam Turrets, if you can afford the power and, more importantly yet, distributor drain, are great. But most times, they are sucking down the distributor. C2 Beam Turrets helps matters on the distributor front, but I really think C3 Beam Turrets are really the key to good performance. Otherwise, I'm with C3 Burst Turrets, especially those engineered Efficient.

I'd be interested to see what your results would be if you had C3 Burst Turrets, and not C3 Pulse Gimballs. I never bother with Pulse myself, always Burst ... especially since they can also be made very Efficient. And I leave them Turreted so they are pounding away ... especially with the Anaconda's firing arcs for the Class 2-3 weapons.

Of course, I got a C4 Multi Gimballed on the Anaconda, so I don't need to use C3 hardpoints for dishing out a kinectic bad day. So the C2 Beam Turrets might be best in a Python configuration, saving the C3 hardpoints for the Multis.

I made my way to the Odin's Wisdom system yesterday to attain some knowledge of the gods. With a system name like that...how could I resist going there?
