Just spent the last 2 hours in `open play` and didn`t meet any other commanders at all.

Space eh?

You're right. Missions like those really do require you to familiarize yourself with the "neighborhood" of systems you're running between. it took me a bit of wandering around but I eventually found that Ackerman Market in Eravate supplies a crap ton of tea. I guess I owe my galaxy map an apology now. :P

Over my last few play sessions I've managed to scrape together enough to buy a Hauler, expand its cargo racks, and then upgraded to an Adder. I'm mostly doing transport and supply missions now that I've got them figured out. However, I (impulsively) accepted a supply mission that paid 93k for gold. I only have 18k atm. The mission expires in 5 hrs but I'm probably not going to be awake for that long... so I'm not sure how I'm going to get out of this one, lol.

That's a shame, although it can either be a good or bad thing depending on the ship one is flying. ;) (I for one would be relieved not to have run into potential pirates lol). It's a big ol' universe out there, and that's what I love about this game. :D

Sold my Freagle, parked my Startwinder, bought a Hauler and have been cruising around scanning everything in sight and knocking out the random 5-15k mission as they become available. Soon I'll trade the hauler for an Adder, kit it out for exploration (and range) and head out into the deep black. All kinds of people on the Frontier forums whining about exploration not "making enough credits". Perhaps...but then again I'm not playing merely to make credits. I've been pleasantly surprised with what I've gotten so far from it.

It would be nice if there were science-oriented missions..."collect data or particle streams off of certain classes of stars" or something like that.

I am liking the new "Dynamic" that they have put in some Missions from the Bulletin Board.

I selected a generic "We need umpteen Auto-Refiners, if you can get us them in 3 hrs we will give you Loads of Dosh" mission, I found a source for them and jumped out to collect them, one the way back I spotted a USS, as I still had some Cargo Space Ithought I would pull over and see if there was anything worth salvaging only to find a Python floating about.

He then signalled me and told me that the mission I was on was a trap to bait pirates, and if I sold the Auto-Refiners to him, at a better price than was being offered originally, he would make sure I was safe.

I declined as I am after the Rep from the faction I ran the mission from, but I was impressed by the little twist and for a few fleeting moments I was tempted to take his offer.

Looking forward to see what other little twists have been added to the system. :D

While it would add variety in order to keep in canon with the game you would need to have a scientific "suite" of scanners to achieve this, possibly a specialist ship due to the enormous amount of power it would require to process the information. More variety is never a bad thing so long it is not done as a "by the way your ship, which is actually pretty basic can also do all this super cool high tech science stuff as well, we just forgot about it when writing the owners manual" :D

I have found a pristine metallic reserve, so I have kitted out my cobra for some mining, saving up for an Asp next probably.
got 32 tonnes in my cobra mining platinum, palladium, gold, and silver if there is enough of it. Have enough firepower on board to take care of most pirates who come to call, so I can collect their bounties as well. I was trading in my hauler until I had enough for my cobra, still a little wet behind the ears in combat, but I have only died once due to some npc ass ramming me with an anaconda. ;)

Currently flying to Hardwick Hub in the Nihursaga system. Its over 250,000Ls away, but the Palladium I`m carrying should fetch over 1000 credits profit for each ton. I hope I typed it in correctly before going to Wong Sher to get it. I`m 67.96Ly away from SOL so I`ve moved about a bit. I`m doing some bounties and missions while trading. I want enough to get a Type 6. I`m really after an ASP, but alas, I don`t play as often as I would like.
