I've done the PvP, I've been a bad-ass 'stand or deliver' roleplay pirate in another Commander's ship before I rerolled.
I've made enemies with The Code's original founding leaders and died by their guns, and have a past belt of notches with their names on it too.
I got bored of it, always killing, there's a galaxy to see, but I don't need to get my ass handed to me when I'm not really expecting it, because the NPC's are not asshats, that's a human trait. It's the mark of a bully, and I discovered I was surrounded and was becoming one.
Then I joined Mobius, the so-called carebear PvE group of nancy's as the other unfortunates call us.
Flying with friendlies always suits me, I know no one is going to backstab me, and if they do, its going to be to my face.
Nowadays, I am fully dedicated to Mobius and the PhP (I like that, I'll send a cargo of gold later for royalties, Loriath)
Now, if I pass another 'hollow' on my radar, I send a "o7" and a friend request, whether they scan me, know me, winged up with me or not.
Sometimes they reject, other times they didn't see it, but mostly they accept. I take that as a "ooh, another green splodgey wotsit on my Galactic map, another pilot that won't shoot at me. Cool."
To me, sending a friend request is akin to offering a peace treaty. A very obvious "Yes, I do wish to see you on my map, and visa versa, because I *am* friendly."... and I have to be, I have a duty of care as a member of the Mobius admin team, I was accepted as mod for the forums, made the Facebook group lead admin and even the TeamSpeak admin because I was around, and showed I cared.
I take this duty seriously, the price I pay for having 'the power' is to make sure it used, but not abused.
I have to be visible, I must be visible, so CMDRs know who to come to when shit hits the fan, and they expect me to know, or do something about it.
But, that's just me.
